Lydden Hill Round 3 Report - 📋

🟧 Practice - All felt fine, the track was very green.

⬜️ Heat 1 - Starting Second for Heat 1, sitting on the grid the battery light decided to flash on and off which was a concern if I could make it to the end. Then a jump start from Graham delaying the start adding to the concern. Alright start with Callum right I got round the outside of turn 1 but all covered leading over the jump for the first time. We went on to control the race trying to be smooth over the increasingly bumpy track. Finished P1.

🟧 Heat 2 - Starting P1 for the second heat, good start staying in the lead off the start. Same as heat 1 until on lap 2 out of the hairpin the car lost all power and slowly came to a stop at the bottom of the hill. DNF

⬜️ Heat 3 - Starting P4 for this one. Okay start up to P3 following Warren over the jump, then up his inside at the top of the hill into P2. Now to close the gap to Callum, on lap to Callum has a moment through the last turn causing him to spin and have two flat tyres. Giving me the lead with Leah - just behind after seeing Callum’s moment 1st hand I tried to take the last turn with caution but even then I nearly suffered the same fate. Finished P1.

🟧 Final - Starting on Pole for the Final, okay start equal to Callum but not Leah as she had a blinder, dropping to P3 I get a run up the hill and attempt to go round Callum but unsuccessful. Luckily Callum Jokers leaving me and Leah to fight for 1st which was more of a game of chase. I was unable to joker as Callum would have been in the window until Lap 5 where I have to try something different, one lap of clear air to try and nick the win. But we missed out by 0.218, congrats Leah. It’s P2 for us.

⬜️ Super Final - Well we join the SuperFinal on the back row as always for fun. I must admit I couldn’t see a thing behind the pack, so dropped a little back but a joker on lap one so I could see meant I could put laps in and get George Gray in the BMW to be the leading Brit. Always nice to race against other cars and to show what the minis can do.

So after Lydden my car will be having somewhat of a transplant so won’t be used for the next round at Pembrey. So I’ll be out in the spare car for Pembrey maybe not in the normal colours.

BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship Blyton Park Round 2 Report 📋

🟧 Practice - Good to get out and make sure everything is running fine after the RallySprint thanks to 777 Motorsport for the help with the repairs and to K-Seal for the Support.

⬜️ Heat 1 - Starting on the outside of the front row, great start until I wasn’t able to find 2nd gear dropping back behind Graham and Mark into the 1st turn. I managed to get a good run out of the chicane and get up the inside of Mark passing him for P2. Then on the exit of the hairpin I managed to do the same to Graham, passing him before the final turn to get into the lead. From there it was survive the loose. Staying 1st in Heat 1.

🟧 After Heat 1 it was decided that we would run on a different layout as the loose was now sending cars into the air, this also meant we lost a heat while the new layout was formed. Big thank you to the organisers for finding a way to continue with the day.

⬜️ Heat 2 - Starting in the middle row inside for this one. Another great start passing Eddie into turn one then managing to got round the outside of Leah to get into 1st, from here it was just a race of no mistakes with Leah keeping me on my toes. We stayed 1st for the rest of the heat.

🟧 Final - So starting P1 for the Final which I think might be my nemesis for Blyton. Good start once again, but being on the inside of I was shown the tyres on the inside and then encouraged to go quicker though turn one, sitting 2nd after the 1st lap trying to find a way past Leigh-Anne, but every gap was covered with Leah pressing behind. I tried to go around the outside on the last turn to find the the grass waiting for me, this means Leah gets a run on my outside into turn 1, which I have covered, but as I go to accelerate out the turn Leigh-Anne makes a mistake in front of me as I tap her rear - Leah is able to get the power down and get pass and go after Leigh-Anne herself. I have to settle for P3.

⬜️ Which after Round 1 earlier in the year I’ll take, not what was expected after the heats but after Round 1 and the RallySprint I’m happy the car is running, looking forward to Lydden coming up soon.

🟧 Super Final - Well this was what I wanted to do since I saw there was going to be a SuperFinal, I love SuperFinals they are just great fun to me and after losing a heat why not get my moneys worth. I did manage to qualify for it on timed result from the heats which is always nice. Starting on the front row with the 4WD cars I knew how that was going to go. I was left for dead and also passed by Mesi Evans in his Peugeot 205 which sounded awesome as it went by. Sadly at the hairpin his car came out of gear and I had no where but the rear of his car to hit. Then after this I managed to get past into the last turn and then just run laps after this knocking my times form my final easier down by 2 seconds, and taking 3rd in the SuperFinal to end on a high note. As a side note again sorry to Mesi Evans that I couldn’t avoid your car.

It’s Race Week!

For Round 2 of the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship at Blyton Park Driving Centre

Spring RallySprint Report - 📋

🟧 Run 1 - On my Own for the 1st run of the day, starting on the inside line. Not as much grip as expected, clean run other than a moment at the last turn. 1:42.745

⬜️ Run 2 - Starting on the inside again, definitely a smoother run than the 1st. On the last lap the power steering faded away. 1:41.514

🟧 Run 3 - After changing the alternator, we had power steering back for the 3rd Run. Once again on the inside line. A clean run left a little time on the table on the outer section. 1:40.241

⬜️ Run 4 - On the Outside for this one, quite happy with the start, definitely not fastest through the chicane’s. Then a missed gear in the devils elbow not the best run. 1:40.802

🟧 Run 5 - Back to the inside line for Run number 5, a lot of wheel spin of the line. The loose on the last turn becoming a little bumpy so no risks taken there. 1:40.607

⬜️ Final - On the inside for the last Run of the day, wheel spin of the line again not as much as the last run, sliding through the devils elbow on both laps. As we get to the top of the hill the car makes some weird sounds as we exit the turn the power goes and the lights on the dashboard appear. So I free roll to Marshall post 3 and that’s the day.

Looks like a couple of little bits have given up but not a need for a new engine so some repair work to do before Round 2 of the BTRDA Championship at Blyton Park on the 28th of June.

We did finish the Day with P2 in the Over 1600 Class, so not all bad news 🥈

Blyton Park Round 1 of the BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship Report 📋

⬜️ Practice - Back in the Car after wayyy too many months out, car felt loose, not much grip on the rear, but all works.

🟧 Heat 1 - P1 on the grid for the 1st race of the year! Good Start, keep the lead into turn 1. Manage to get some good laps in and build a lead. Finish P1.

⬜️ Heat 2 - Starting P6 on the back row for the second heat, up into 3rd by turn 1. I managed to get past Graham into 2nd coming up to last turn at the end of lap one, then the chase was on to catch Leigh-Anne. Now for a full two laps of going left and right and trying to brake later it came down to the last turn on the final lap round the outside by 0.016 definitely the closest finish I’ve ever had! P1.

Words don’t do the race justice especially not mine, I’ll upload the race at some point.

🟧 Heat 3 - Second Row Start P4 on the grid. Great start through the middle of the grid into P1 before turn 1, good pace during the heat finishing P1.

⬜️ Final - Starting P1, not the best start, had to brake before turn one due to the impending tyre wall in front of me. Reduced to 4 laps, had a good couple laps of bumper to bumper with Leah but on the loose on Lap 4 the car cut out and that was the end of the race for me. Ended up just being a relay had popped out which is a shame to end the day that way. DNF

Thanks to Brian McGuinness for finding the issue after the final, at least it was a small issue.

Unfortunate to end the day that way after 3 heat wins with some great racing, the pace is good, happy with the end we’ll try again at Round 2!

BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship Round 6 Knockhill Report 🗒️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

🟧 Practice - 1st time this far up the country, nice to get a run out in practice very bumpy. A different style of track to what I’ve been to.

⬜️ Heat 1 - 🌧️ Staring on Pole for Heat 1, not the best start, sitting behind Ryan after turn two until he makes an error and slides off the road. Stuck behind Derrick for the rest of the heat, Ryan manages to catch back up but we finish in P1.

🟧 Heat 2 - 🌧️ Again on Pole for this one, but just like before Ryan gets the better one. I stay as close as I can over the bumps and in the mud, staying in P2 for this one.

⬜️ Heat 3 - 🌧️ Starting P2 no difference in the start, same fun with the visibility. Bumps starting to get worse but we drive within the needs. P2 in Heat 3.

🟧 Final - 🌧️ Starting P2, Rain basically all day means the dirt section is very slippery now and the visibility is something you’d love to have, better start but same result as the rest of the day, had a little look down the straight starting lap two but unable to pass. P2 in the Final that’s all I needed. Well done to Ryan on the Win!

BTRDA Clubmans Rallycross Championship Lydden Hill Round 5 Report 🗒️

🟧 Heat 1 - Starting on pole for heat 1, down to second in turn one. A slight error from Lynn allowed me to get alongside down the hill but I was unable to make the pass. I take the joker on lap 2 to get clear air. Lynn joker’d on the next lap so I managed to get past into P1. And stay there on the final lap getting P1 in Heat 1.

⬜️ Heat 2 - Pole for heat 2, okay start but Ryan takes the lead. I try to pass Ryan on the outside at the top of the hill but was unable to, so I joker on lap one. On lap two my gearbox mount snaps so changing gear now makes a rather large thud. But I continue to chase Ryan which joker’s on the final lap allowing me to get P1 on the final lap.

🟧 Heat 3 - Pole for Heat 3, not the best start losing two places to Ryan and Lynn. I was side by side with Lynn up and down the hill until he joker’d. I get a run on the outside of Ryan on turn one but my tyre pops during the move ending my race - DNF

⬜️ Final - Pole for the Final, good start best of the day staying in the lead through turn 1. Nice clear air just to put some laps in get a gap for the joker which I do on lap 4 keeping the lead. P1 at the line. 🏆

Thank you to my brother I hope you had fun in your first race and thank you to the rest of thr family for the hard work and commitment. Also to other that helped with parts over the weekend to get us both to the end. 🧡
