And just like that the league season is once again over! Apologies for the lack of content on here over the last couple of months, with both teams caught up in the whirlwind that is the cricket season, especially with the lovely hot days we’ve had this summer.

For the final league weekend of the season there was a solemn fixture on Saturday. The twos league opposition conceded, and instead scheduled a Sunday friendly in its place.

The 1st XI were at home to Egerton, having lost the earlier season fixture, Hunton were eager to ensure Egerton didn’t do the double. Winning the toss home captain Line elected to bat and alongside opening partner Bassam put on 50 for the first wicket. Both openers fell inside 2 overs after this and made way for inform Newman and Crouch to continue scoring 98 between them, Newman top scoring with 55. A valuable contribution came from 15 Year Old Robertson on debut who batted time, but the rest of the order failed to make any meaningful score and 176 looked a little light at the half way stage.

Coming out to field, Bassam made the most of his match fee opening batting and bowling and removed 4 quick wickets for a personal cost of just 17. Amidst some economical overs from fellow opener Selvaratnam, change bowler Line took personal best figures of 5/34 and Bushell dismissed the last standing bat to complete a dominant victory and a great way to finish the season. After promotion last year, a final position of 6th in the table is a respectable result to push on from next year.

A sunday friendly win completed a double win weekend for the club, winning the toss and bowling skipper Maguire shared the bowling around, after early threats from the openers Puxty returned best figures and the overall effort restricted the opposition to 143 from their allocation.
In reply Huntons start was shaky, opener Dibend falling for a duck, whilst numbers 3, 4 and 5 contributed little to the score. Line and Taylor steadied the ship adding 66 before Taylor went on to make an eventual 77* and lead the side to victory in a very well spirited game.

Now onto a few weeks of friendlies before a well deserved winter break.

No team sheets this week with both our 1st and 2nd XI on a league by week, but a friendly team welcomes Minster Cricket Club to our ground this weekend so feel free to pop down.
Instead last weekend saw us field 3 teams in a weekend and bring back two wins
In the First XI fixture, Jack Crouch led with bat and ball, but a great team effort with all round contributions got us a vital win against Oakfield. Winning the toss and batting first we traded 199-7 in our allotted 40 overs, before bowling Oakfield out inside 32 overs for a 78 run victory. Crouch with 81 and 4 wickets and a well deserved MOM performance.
In the Second XI, Kings Hills decision to bowl first was justified as they bowled us out for just 110 with only Aldous reaching double figures, a disappointing display with the bat but was met with good fight in the field to dislodge 5 Kings Hill batsmen, but ultimately we didn’t have enough runs to create enough pressure, but positives to take.
On Sunday, Wye chose to use the weaponry first and at one stage a big score looked in the offing as both openers scored quickly. Tight bowling and key wickets in the middle of the top 5 pegged the game back into Hunton’s favour and left us with a target of 152. At 70-7 we were stumbling but Ben Newmarch and Mike Nock soaked up the pressure putting on 80 unbeaten for the 10th wicket and led us to victory, the former reaching 61* in the process.

Plenty of positives for the league games that recommence next week with both sides looking to hit the latter half of the season hard and advance their respective positions in the league table.

For the first time since 2019 we are proud to put out 3 sides for this weekend. Our two league teams face the first of the return fixtures as we reach the halfway point of the league, with The 1st XI at home to Oakfield hoping to repeat their early season victory, and 2nd XI travel to Kings Hill. On Sunday our friendly XI are away to Wye which should prove an enjoyable all round day. Hopefully the lads can bring back three wins for the club, but more importantly a wonderful effort by all our members new and old to fill three fixtures regardless of result.

Our two teams to play both away this Saturday. After two well fought games against New Ash Green last week The 1st VI look to finally get over the line against Egerton this week following a string of tightly played losses, with Newman fresh off his 68* last week and Harry Wood making his first appearance for the season bolstering the side, C Roberts, Newmarch and Bassam also make their return. The Second Team face Teston away in a friendly after the league opposition conceded, late changes mean the Chairman comes in on return from injury and 3 players 18 or under lower the average age into the 40s. As ever spectators welcome if you are close to either of the ground.

Another tough weekend for the Wanderers with two defeats but fight shown in both. Away at Holborough the 1s elected to bowl first after the skipper won the toss, and reduced the opposition to 90-5 after drinks but a late fight back left them chasing a total that proved to be just a stretch too far in reply. Good all round team contributions were the positives to take.
In the 2nd team game a strong Rainham outfit elected to bat first and took full advantage it what was always going to prove a tough game against top of the table for Hunton, but new and old faces made runs in reply and led to a respectable response and some hard earned bonus points. Both teams look ahead to this weeks double header against New Ash Green.

A tough weekend for our double header against Orpington Ocelots in the KRCL led to two eerily similar losses with tighter games than the scorecard suggests, a good effort with many regulars missing from both teams. A special mention to Matt Hamilton for taking a 5fer on his 1st Team League Debut and to Ben Newmarch and Jim Kidner for their man of the match performances respectively. We go again this weekend with two more fixtures and both teams searching for points.
