❌ GAME OFF ❌

Unfortunately today’s home game against Stainland Stags has been cancelled due to the Stags being unable to raise a side. That is our regular Division 1 season over however we have earned a spot in the play offs which commence next week. Our Division 7 side also have 1 more fixture with a trip to Boothtown in a couple of weeks.

Big win in the sun for Barbarians!☀️

Our Division 7 side welcomed high flying Woodhouse Warriors to Haxby Road. With much of the team featuring in the loss at their place earlier in the year they had some rights to wrong. Our division 7 team have been building steadily despite some tough losses and with 14 out of the 16 of the matchday squad featuring in Division 7 throughout the year it was a great chance to show that improvement!

The Barbarians raced in to an 18-0 lead with tries from S. Rafi, L. Phillips, who is well in the race for our Division 7 top scorer, and the first of a S. Allen double who was outstanding and no doubt would be more than comfortable if selected for his Division 1 debut!
Woodhouse weren’t disheartened and rallied back well to get in at HT with the scores level.

The second half was all Barbarians, Woodhouse asked plenty of questions with their kicking game but R. McNamee and T. Speich on the wings were outstanding. The former has made huge strides forward through the season and the latter hadn’t played RL before his debut for us a few weeks back but has already shown he has the potential to be a great player! S. Gibbs was up to his usual tricks, throwing dummy’s and crashing over for a double. B. Trawally, another player who has improved hugely this season crossed for a try after some lovely team play. After the Warriors lost discipline and went down to 12 K. Oliver played a smart short side move before supporting to finish the break he created. T. Speich then slotted to earn the first points of his RL career!

Almost all of the lads who played in this win team have taken some tough defeats in what has been a strange Division 7 league this year. Despite this they have kept improving and chasing wins, we are buzzing they got the reward they deserve!

MOTM on the day went to S. Gibbs for his 18 point haul and the way he led the team around the park!

Honours even at Haxby Road!🟡⚫️

Saturday saw us host an expansive Emley Moor side in an entertaining, end to end game that finished all square at 26 all.

A much-changed Barbarians outfit dominated the early exchanges physically with standout performances from L. Philips, R. Behl and D Ramsey in the middle of the field, and it was Ramsey, deputising at ho**er, who got the first Barbs points by diving over from dummy half and finishing well at arms length.

Man of the match J. Ogilvie scored either side of halftime, the first with a clever dummy near the line saw him slice through the defence; whilst the second was an outstanding 60m effort, breaking a tackle, stepping the cover, rounding the fullback and outpacing the chasing defence to score next to the posts.

Some excellent ends to sets and the completion of Ogilvie’s hat trick kept the Barbs in control until Emley Moor hit back with two quick fire tries.

Some outstanding scrambling defensive efforts to save tries from K. Rushworth, M. Brookes and O. Grimbley keep the Barbs in front until our opponents crashed over to take a 2 point lead at the death.

In the final minute of the game Rushworth rose highest to claim the short kick off before Brookes nailed his 5th conversion of the afternoon to secure a hard earned point and keep us in 3rd place!

Team is in!🔒🟡⚫️

We welcome Emley Moor to Haxby Road today with both teams having already secured a play off both sides will be looking to find some form heading in to the final stretch of the season. A few lads in the team making their 1st appearance in Division 1 this year, well earned and we wish them the best of luck!

❌GAMES OFF❌

Unfortunately both of today’s games have been cancelled.
Our Division 1 side was due to face Birstall Victoria who were unable to raise a side so we take a 24-0 win. It’s a shame as we always have a great game against Birstall but the result confirms our spot in the play offs.

Our division 7 team were due to travel to Boothtown. Unfortunately we were told 24 hours before that despite rain this week the pitch was deemed unplayable, we did offer to play at Haxby Road to get the game on but Boothtown wouldn’t travel. Summer availability is always a challenge so to have two teams ready to go and then both games off is a real shame.

Barbarians return to winning ways!🟡⚫️

Saturday saw the club host its first ever home double header!

The day started with our Division 7 side who faced table topping Clayton ARLFC. They competed for long periods and showed a huge improvement from the game between the sides in Round 1. Lot’s of players performed well; S. Towers had a relentless work rate in the middle, C. Smith looked dangerous despite a while away but it was E. Williamson who took MOTM. His blistering pace was too much for Clayton to handle crossing twice and causing chaos everytime he touched the ball. One of his tries was one of the best Haxby has ever seen, beating multiple Clayton tacklers before burning the full back and retreating defenders alike.

Next up was our Division 1 team who faced Seacroft Sharks. After two narrow losses the team needed to bounce back and they did! York dominated territory for long periods of the first half but couldn’t get the points they deserved with Seacroft scrambling well. The second half was a strange stop start affair. Seacroft found field position off the back of penalties are took an 8 point lead. It could have been more if not for a try saver in the corner from T.Innes. York were staring down the barrel of another defeat. The team from this point on showed the quality they possess. Dominating field position, rolling down the field through strong carries and eventually crossing first through R. Maynard, J. Smith to give the team the lead before S. Gibbs secured the victory, which was worth 4 competition points! MOTM on the day T. Innes who worked tirelessly on both sides of the ball.

‘Jacob has led from the front since the start of the season but his recent performances in June have been standout. Moving to 13 and leading our defensive intent with his contact and aggression.

In attack the team have benefited from his subtle ball playing skills opening up opportunities through the middle of the field as well as his tough carries and line running ability which always make him a threat. He’s become a real leader in the group and will play a big role in this business end of the season!’
