Winning return for Barbarians!🟡⚫️

York Barbarians returned to Haxby Road after a long stretch of away fixtures for the Division 1 side. The opponents on the day were Wibsey Warriors.

The Barbarians played clever attacking rugby and scored a nice mix of points from sweeping team moves to barnstorming carries down the middle of the field showing their physical dominance. The team were left frustrated at the points conceded which felt avoidable but posting 40+ at this level is never easy. MOTM on the day was J. Harte who has had two outstanding games at loose forward, really stepping up in the last two weeks to lead the team when plenty of regular names have been missing. Other standouts on the day included R. Steele, who was relentless in the middle, and J. Ogilvie who is in possibly the best form we have seen from him!

Here’s what the coaches had to say about his May-

‘Our current most improved award winner has started this season as impressively as he finished last year. Having featured for both 1st and 2nd team so far Bahada has continued to improve and been a standout performer in our games through May.

His strong carries and defensive work rate have really stood out as strengths of his game.

I’m really confident there’s so much more to come from Bahada, he’s very coachable and shows a desire to keep developing his skills and learn as much as he can’

Barbarians back on home turf!🟡⚫️

After 5 consecutive away games for our Division 1 side we are finally back to Haxby Road. We welcome Wibsey Warriors who, despite the Barbarians taking the points away from home, gave York a real tough challenge. We’d love to have plenty of support down at Haxby Road to support the team as they return home after a successful but tough stretch of away fixtures!

Unfortunately our Division 7 game has been postponed.

Barbarians grind out away win!🟡⚫️

Saturday saw our Division 1 side travel to Birstall. A few regular faces missing and an injury in warm up meant the team had quite a bit of adversity to overcome. Birstall were a tough side to break down and asked plenty of questions with their early attacking kicks and strong running. Standouts on the day included A. Allerton and E. Nelson who made big impacts from the bench but it was workhorse K. Robertson who took home MOTM for an outstanding shift in the middle.

A tough afternoon for our Division 7 side who faced a strong Boothtown side. The team showed promising spells matching Boothtown but had periods of conceding heavy points which meant the scoreboard got away from them. MOTM on the day was L. Faulkner, the prop turned half back scored and set up a try showing his class. Shoutout to M. Edgar who scored his first in Yellow and Black and debutant J. Parr who will be a great addition to the squad!

‼️ANNUAL FUNDRAISING DAY RETURNS‼️

Our yearly fundraising event is back and better than ever. On the 27th June we will be holding two events!

The first is our annual netball tournament. Players, volunteers, friends and family are split in to four teams to compete for the coveted Netball Champions Trophy. There will also be a bake sale and drinks available to purchase.

The fun continues in the evening with a huge event in the upstairs space of Yates bar. Players and volunteers will dress up and perform as the world’s biggest music stars fighting it out to be the 2026 winner! We will also have exclusive drinks offers available for all in attendance to take advantage of. This year we also have the extra bonus of an England vs Panama watchalong!

We’d like to take this chance to invite all members, friends, family, supporters and sponsors to come get involved in our big day!

Barbarians back in action!🟡⚫️

After a mid season break we are back! First up our Division 1 side travel to Birstall. It is always a tough place to go but the team have trained well and will be aiming to put themselves up to 3rd with 2 games in hand.

Next up is a home game, FINALLY! Our division 7 side welcome Boothtown. A few players making their first appearance of the season plus two debutants as we continue building. With so many games being postponed at the moment it is a credit to the work of everyone involved that on a weekend of 20+ not available we still have 34 representing the club!🟡⚫️

Our last game before this small mid season break saw our Division 7 side travel to Woodhouse. It was a tough encounter with the Barbarians struggling to find a foothold in the first half and going in behind. A few fixes and the away side were much closer to their levels in the second half. York got with in two scores and were dominating proceedings but full credit to Woodhouse who kept turning up defensively and added points in the last few minutes to secure the win. Standouts on the day for the Barbarians were debutants M. Edgar and P. Castro who showed why they will be great additions to the squad, however MOTM went to B. Trawally who continues to impress!

We are finally back in action this weekend, our Division 1 team is on the road, again, to face Birstall and our Division 7 team welcome Boothtown to Haxby Road!
