**ON THE OTHER SIDE OF STRUGGLE…**
…it can be pretty wonderful.
Watching Channel 4] last night, something the amazing said really resonated.
She talked about how, in the past, she would avoid certain situations or turn down events because she felt, with her disability, it would be too hard to participate.
Now, I’m not for a moment saying, as an able-bodied woman, that I understand how Sophie feels but having struggled with my mental health for many years what she said rang true for me too.
I would often avoid going places and say no to invitations because overcoming my anxiety to get there seemed too hard. It didn’t seem worth it. The reward didn’t seem worth the perceived risk I felt.
As a result, I played it safe; stayed in my comfort zone and felt like the flaky friend who cancelled last minute or always said no.
Sophie said though that changing your life and experiencing joy and happiness can come, and usually does come, with some kind of hardship and struggle.
But the important thing is to push through the struggle because, when you do, the experiences and opportunities that come can be blimmin’ wonderful.
So, I will continue to push myself through the tough times and keep going through the struggles because the memories made are so worth it.
And if you haven’t watched “Living Wild: How to change your life” on Channel 4] yet, I highly recommend it.
An hour of positive, inspiring people who have taken the leap to find their purpose and to live their happiest lives.
