Ain't no stopping the Strider crew!

One of our biggest turn outs in the vets series so far, with 27 Striders crossing the finish line yesterday evening.

The course put on by was the 3rd of 10 races and was a real mix of terrain, including a good section of mud and without the wasps this year!

Picking up the individual age cat prizes last night were:
Andy Smith 1st MV45 (and overall race winner)
Amy Connor 1st FV.35
David Taylor 1st MV70
Paul Senior 2nd MV50
Paul Smith 3rd MV45

The overall club standings are hotting up in 'rest to count' and 'all to count' with our ladies in the top spot and men in 3rd.

We also have some promising team results, mix team, Ladies 35-49 & mens 60+ all doing very well.

Everyone who finishes the race scores points for the overall team. So the more joining us, the more points we get. There's 7 races left so lots can change, if you haven't signed up yet there's still time.

Next up - Morley 16th June.

Happy Birthday to Us! ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ‰

Last night we got together to celebrate 8 years this month since Slaithwaite Striders was born! Beginning as small group runs with Club Captain Andy and his neighbours, an invitation was put out to the village and numbers grew quickly. Despite being much younger than many running clubs in the area, we've already been through covid lockdown restrictions (who remembers running in groups of 6?), the learning curve of keeping more and more runners safe, and we now organise two races each year! We can't wait to see what the next 8 years and beyond bring...

These days the club has well over 100 members, with our signature green kit seen at race startlines (and often podiums), both locally and across the country, every weekend. We're always keen to welcome new members to join us - come along to our club runs on Thursdays at 6.45pm, or send us a message to find out more ๐Ÿ’š

Massive thanks to one of our sponsors, , for a lovely setting to celebrate and socialise last night. The food was exceptional as always - no mean feat for over 30 of us at once!

A big round of applause to up and coming strider Oliver who ran Stadium Runnerโ€™s Marsden 10 miler on Sunday.

The trail run traverses the beautiful Deer Hill Reservoir before climbing to Wessenden Head and looping back to Marsden. Oliver came in with an amazing time of 1:35 - well done Oliver! ๐Ÿ’š

North Leeds Skyline

Saturday was a day of hills, friendship and plenty of smiles at the North Leeds Skyline event for our Slaithwaite Striders!

Rachel and Anna took on the challenging 15km route, tackling a brutal climb just a quarter of a mile from the start before settling into their stride. The pair battled the hills, embraced the rain, enjoyed a few jelly babies along the way and, despite getting completely drenched, thoroughly enjoyed a fantastic route and great company from start to finish.

Meanwhile, Dave and Duane stepped up to the 50km ultra challenge. These guys made the most of the excellent organisation and supportive atmosphere. The rolling mixed terrain, muddy fields and technical sections kept them on their toes throughout, while teamwork and encouragement helped carry them through the tougher moments.

With tired legs and aching quads in the closing stages, the pair still found another runner to chase down in the final kilometres, digging deep when it mattered most. The technical descent to the finish tested their weary legs, but they pushed through to complete the course in around 5 hours 45 minutes, delighted with their performance and a PB for Duane.

A huge well done to Rachel, Anna, Dave and Duane for representing the club so brilliantly and taking on everything the North Leeds Skyline could throw at them.

Bronte 5 miler

David was a solo Strider taking on the 5 mile road race put on by and part of the YVAA championship.

A great race which was challenging in the weather conditions on Thursday evening but David smashed it bringing it home for the green team in 1st MV70 and nabbing the very prestigious TOBLERONE.

Strider Victory at Colne Valley 10k Challenge! ๐Ÿฅ‡

Well done to Callum, Sue, and Joe for racing the Colne Valley 10k Challenge on Sunday! Part of the Huddersfield Road Series, this route is a local favourite, taking in almost 1000ft of elevation on tracks around around Golcar, Longwood, and Scapegoat Hill.

Striders put in a strong showing, with new member Joe taking 10th place (no pictures unfortunately) and Callum bringing home the win! ๐Ÿ’ช

Thanks for another great edition of this race, and best of luck for the remaining races in the 2026 series!๐Ÿ’š

A huge well done to Brad who ran the Maverick X-Trails Peak District 50km this weekend. The race boasts around 4000ft elevation and this weekend was a scorcher, but this didnโ€™t stop the determined Brad who flew round the course in 7:03:24 ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ this fella has big plans, and we canโ€™t wait to see what else he does this year ๐Ÿ’š
