The volleyball club has been running successfully since 2006, attracting a mixture of home and international students. The club aims to create a friendly and fun environment for students to play and compete in their favourite sport. The club generally trains as a mixed group. However, there is both a mixed team (which competes in the West Yorkshire Volleyball Association league) and a men’s team (
which competes in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league). In the past few years the club participated in local leagues and won several competitions such as the Hull & East Yorkshire Volleyball Association Jubilee Cup, the West Yorkshire Volleyball Association League and Varsity challenge against the rivals Bradford University. The last academic year saw the men’s team’s first year of participation in the BUCS league. This was a great success with the club coming first. As a result, our team will be competing in the higher division of this league this year. We will be competing against Leeds, Hull, York, Sheffield and Newcastle universities. The club also runs a number of social events during the season. This gives members the opportunity to get to know each other better and have some fun. Social events last year included going out for drinks and meals, bowling and ice skating. The club trains in the University Sport and Fitness Centre every Tuesday evening 5-7pm.
