Fencing has been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. The foil is a precise point weapon and fencers must hit the torso only to score a hit. The Epee is a point weapon with a larger guard to protect your whole body as fencers must hit anywhere to score. And finally the Sabre, derived from a cavalry weapon, is
a cut and thrust sword. Fencers can score with the blade as well as the tip and must hit above the waist. At Huddersfield, we are situated in the Sports hall. We train on Sundays from 1pm to 3pm and also on Tuesdays from 5:15 until 6:45. Experienced and inexperienced fencers are both completely welcome, and your first session is free with no membership required, to give everyone a chance to have a go.
