The Official page for The University of Huddersfield Rugby Union Football Club. UHRUFC (Huddersfield Sharks) are one of the largest and most successful sports clubs at Huddersfield University, well known throughout the campus for success on the pitch and liveliness off it. We pride ourselves in looking after each and every member throughout their time at University, on and off the pitch.

We welcome all playing and social members, regardless of their history and ability. Training is held on Mondays from 7-9pm at Lockwood Park, home of Huddersfield RUFC. As a member, not only will you enjoy a great sport and make many new friends, you will also be entitled to all associated discounts, benefits and sponsorship deals that our committee have arranged such as cheaper drinks and discounted entry to name a few. When York St John’s pulled out, we didn’t think a game would go ahead at all, but thankfully with a combination of our bench and bringing down some lads we managed to have a final game of the season.
An great win for the starting 15 boys, with both teams scoring relatively highly, the game was a total tale of two halves, the first half being very equal, battling at each end of the pitch, where over time fatigue built and the starting 15 managed to dominate leading to the scoreline.

Overall a great show of rugby, an excellent end of season game where everyone could show off what’s been built this year.
Both sides with excellent scrums and line outs shows the growth in players over the last year, ball handling and skills have improved massively and that was shown on wednesday.
A great way to round out the season 🫡

Last but not least, an award I’ve decided to introduce this year — the Presidents Player.

George Warner was incredibly unfortunate to miss out on Players’ Player, Forward of the Year, and Back of the Year, coming close in all three. That alone tells you the level he’s performed at this season.

As captain, stepping up and doing what’s best for the team is expected — but Warner has taken that to a completely different level. Making the transition from a hard-hitting number 8, to stepping in at 10 and controlling the game is no small task, yet he’s made it look natural.

Defensively, he’s been outstanding — our best by a mile. When things get tough, Warner steps up. With the ball in hand, he’s a powerhouse, consistently getting us over the gain line, while also bringing calmness and structure to the backs. His work rate, covering ground in defence and attack, has been relentless.

A fantastic season from a player whose commitment and impact simply couldn’t go unnoticed.

Well well well…

FRESHER OF THE YEAR, this was a difficult decision to make, the intake we’ve had this year has brought some class personalities to light and we’ve had some pretty great freshers, This man has come into the sharks and performed immensely, despite being unable to play the first half of the year, throughout the second half he’s came in and filled in that front row and shocked everybody, showing speed and agility that we didn’t think was possible for a front rower, he brings a great attitude in uplifting the lads in every game we play.

With the social aspect this lad epitomises everything about the sharks. From insisting he’s not going out to turning up at our house and drinking our ale to throwing some of the greatest shapes you’ll ever see in Mavs, This lad definitely loves the club off the field too. He’s more than just drinking however always making sure everyone’s involved and having a good time. Combined with his performances on pitches it’s clear to see why Travis Perrie is your 25/26 Sharks Fresher of the year.

Two Most Improved Players this year 👏

Massive credit to both lads this season — the progress hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Jamie putting in the work at prop, his improvement in the scrum has been huge. Stronger, more consistent, and really stepping up to anchor the front row when it matters most. His overall game has come on massively too — better hands, stronger carries, and more confidence around the pitch.

Fred covering both ho**er and second row, his versatility has been massive for the team. Always willing to step in wherever needed, and his all-round game has improved loads — from lineouts and tackles to ball handling and work rate in open play.

Both have put in the effort week in, week out, improving not just in their roles but across all areas of the game — and it’s paid off. Fully deserved

From the very beginning of the season, he has been a constant presence in the squad and a true stalwart. Whether it’s been on the wing, at fullback, or stepping into the number 9 shirt when the team needed him, he’s taken on every challenge without hesitation. If not for an unfortunate injury halfway through the season, there’s no doubt he would have featured in every single game, which says everything about how important he’s been to the team. He’s scored a couple of truly lovely tries this year and with that, Ben Wood has earned our fresher’s player of the year.

This player has had a great season playing a couple of positions. He has a few games at 10 with the majority being at 9. He has consistently good passes with a few hospital balls in there. He is always a voice from 9 and isn’t afraid to play what he sees in front of him. He has kicked 4 conversions and an impressive drop goal against Leeds Beckett. So this years back of the year is Eddie wragg.

It’s been no secret our scrum has been one of, if not our most dominant part of our game this year.
We have all seen the clip of Salford getting trampled and knocked back on their own put in - despite playing in the league above us.
Consistency is key in that regard, when you have something strong, don’t change it. This player has been that constant in the scrums. This player has also been integral in the lineouts with calling and lifting, not to mention he can throw as well - as seen with his efforts with his local team too.
However on the pitch the most valued part of this player’s toolkit is his organisation and leadership, sorting our forward structure and stepping into pack leader. He still gives this constant communication even when he’s blowing out his arse.
Now with Warner making the much appreciated move into the backs you would’ve expected his pace to increase or to be down at training practicing kicking.
He would’ve needed the practice to compete with this player who surprisingly didn’t lock down the kicking responsibilities after putting Salford back on their try line from our own 22 - truly a back at heart

The first of our awards is a double header for Max Holland

This season, both the players and our coach were in full agreement. As our highest try scorer, he’s been a constant threat every time he gets the ball in hand. With the ability to step past anyone and create chances out of nothing, he’s been a nightmare for defences all year.

Chosen by his teammates for his impact on the pitch and backed by our coach for his consistency, work rate, and game-changing ability, this double award is fully deserved. A standout performer who’s delivered week in, week out. Your players player and coaches player Max Holland
