Saturday 30th May
The 1st XI travelled to The Sportsfield in Littlehampton to take on their 1st XI and came away the 30 points from a good win.
Having won the toss, Jamie Gandy elected to bat first and after loosing Jacob Gilkison early, Rohan Patel and Max Mcateer put on 115 for the second wicket before Max fell for 63. Rohan went on to make 57 before Max Rees struck a quick 76 from 51 balls as the total closed on 284-7.
Chasing a decent total, Littlehampton Captain, Michael Askew offered early resistance with 61 and other runs were being scored before Jacob took two important wickets leaving 66 needed with two wickets remaining. In the end, Littlehampton were all out for 262 with a run out in the final over to seal the win.
At Victory Road, the 2nd XI took on Horsham 3rd XI.
Having won the toss and choosing to bat, Trinity were indebted to Chris Douglas for his 46 runs at the top of the order and later on Ben Watson with 20, but we could only muster a disappointing 149 runs from 31.3 overs.
With regular opening pair of Street and Greenwood missing, George Horner and Lewis Fiddaman done a decent job taking 1-28 and 2-25 respectively from their 6 overs each, but we only took one further wicket as Horsham reached the target in the 23rd over.
At Lower Beeding the 3rd XI pulled off what should have been a straight forward run chase against Ifield 5th XI, but it nearly didn’t go to plan!
Ifield won the toss and decided to bat, with all but one batter, who made 30, struggled against the bowling. Having come into the attack late on, Marcus Ally produced his best figures of 4-28 as the visitors were dismissed for 130 in the 40th over.
In the reply, with both openers making ducks Trinity were reduced to 77-7, but Rob Watson (25no) and Captain Neil Collyer (29no) put on an unbroken 54 run stand to see victory secured in the 37th over.
At Barns Green, the 4th XI took on the host’s 2nd XI.
Having lost the toss, Trinity were asked to take to the field in the sun and were immediately met with some big hitting whether the ball merited it or not, until a couple of breakthroughs were made by Xander Lawson including a good return catch. The bowlers then generally suffered with Gareth Jeffreys taking two wickets and Luca Kingscott 1-24 from a good five overs. Barns Green eventually put on 289-6 from their 40 overs.
Veteran pair Roger Southgate and Alan Wyatt opened the reply and Alan was unfortunate to be bowled for 46 off an inside edge to end a 114 run stand. Two quick wickets fell before Captain Rory Lawson hit a rapid 36 before being caught. Roger then brought up a magnificent 100, but as other wickets continued to fall he pressed on to eventually be stumped for a brilliant 137. Last wicket pair Henry Joanes (17no) and Josh Humphreys (10no) continued to hit the ball and scamper runs, but ultimately the overs run out with a great score of 280 posted.
Sunday 31st May
In a game that had been rearranged to Victory Road from being at Southwater, the Sunday XI took on the visiting Southwater Sunday XI.
Having won the toss, we chose to bat and opened with Kiwi Jacob Gilkison and Harry Bradshaw who was un unexpected addition to the side and playing here for the first time in over a year away. Both hit the ball hard and Jacob retired on 50 before Harry moved on to a personal best of 88, but was then caught and bowled. Lewis Fiddaman at number 3 also then retired at 50, a first senior half century for him. After that, things slowed down and wickets fell and the hosts finished on 282-7 with number 5 Isaac Gorringe undefeated on 15 and Jacob Willmer taking 5 for 31 from his 5 overs.
After the break, Matt Plater bowled the first over with his usual accuracy, but then in the second unexpected thing of the day, Elliott Stanbridge bowled the first over from the Swindon Road end, but it turned out to be a move of genius as Els picked up a wicket with his 1st ball and his 3rd and his 5th, all whilst sporting his bucket hat! Amongst all the wickets falling, Southwater’s Jacob Willmer continued his great day with 58 runs before being bowled by Luca Kingscott. Later on, already on a personal best, Elliott returned to bowl from the other end and immediately picked up his fourth wicket. With one last chance of a five-for the ball was hit in the air and after a nervous wait Matt Plater held on to the catch to see Southwater all out for 180.
