What does self-love actually mean to you? ❤️
About 10 years ago, I actually hated who I was.
I didn’t really know what self-love was back then, but I knew I didn’t like myself.
I didn’t like how I looked.
I didn’t like how I danced.
And I didn’t like the way I constantly put myself down.
I used to dance A LOT, but eventually I stopped because I convinced myself I wasn’t good enough.
There were things I *did* like about myself. I loved my hobbies. I knew I was a nice person. I cared about people.
But somehow, even those things became a negative.
I thought I was just **plain, boring and nice.**
Firstly…
NICE ISN’T BORING. 😂
But secondly, I had completely lost sight of who I was.
When I first started learning about self-love, I was sceptical.
Because what did self-love actually mean?
Did it mean being vain?
Putting yourself before everyone else?
Walking around thinking you were better than everyone?
Being selfish?
No.
Over the years, I’ve learnt that self-love is actually much simpler.
❤️ Self-love is accepting who you are.*
Not thinking you’re perfect, but being okay with yourself as a person and accepting that you’re allowed to be a work in progress.
❤️ Self-love is enjoying your own company.
Because you actually like the person you’re spending time with.
❤️ Self-love is looking in the mirror and being able to say, “I feel good today.”
Without immediately picking yourself apart.
❤️ Self-love is being present in your friendships.
Because you’re not constantly worrying about what everyone else thinks of you.
And perhaps most importantly…
Self-love is not about becoming obsessed with yourself.
It’s about stopping being at war with yourself.
It’s about changing the relationship you have with the one person you will spend your entire life with.
So I want you to ask yourself:
How do I actually feel about myself?
Do I like who I am?
Do I speak kindly to myself?
Do I trust my own decisions?
Do I enjoy my own company?
Do I feel comfortable being myself?
And if the answer to some of those is no, don’t judge yourself.
I’ve been there.
Are you ready to rebuild the relationship you have with yourself?
