The photo you see here is of myself in the center and two neighbors of ours in the Santa Ynez Valley of California. Memo Gracida (with the cap) and Joel Baker. Both of these men are extremely involved in the sport of polo. Each of these men have become strong believers in my non-violent training of horses.
They began several years ago to encourage me to increase my interest in the game of polo where young horses were traditionally 'broken' with harsh procedures, mostly by South American horsemen. Each of my friends were acquainted with Adolfo Cambiaso who was the leading polo player of the world at that particular time.
They brought Mr. Cambiaso to my farm, where he watched as I put the first saddle and rider on three totally untrained two-year-olds. Recently, Cambiaso encouraged me to attend a large celebration of polo in March 2025 in Argentina. On this trip I started a typical, โunbrokenโ Argentine polo prospect.
There were about 2,000 people who witnessed it and it is now obvious that polo has taken up my non-violent training at a level most polo fans would have believed was impossible. Without the assistance of Gracida and Baker along with Cambiaso, it seems highly unlikely this change would have come about.
I want the world to know that polo is undertaking an enormous change primarily having to do with removing violence from the early training of their beautiful horses. Anyone who loves horses should appreciate and thank Memo Gracida, Joel Baker and Adolfo Cambiaso for seeing, believing and introducing non-violence to the game they love.
I recommend horsemen attend a polo match and be quick to thank the players for accepting my concepts to eliminate the harsh breaking procedures that occurred for years prior to viewing and accepting my methods as a part of their world.
Memo is teaching the next generation about the better ways of horsemanship and Joel Baker is encouraging the sport through better attendance and understanding of the sport. Adolfo Cambiaso is breeding some of the best polo horses the world has seen. I am very proud to know each of them.
