A great day at HDIBC yesterday when 48 members, old and new, competed in our annual Stick Drive competition.

After 3 rounds Barbara F-D, John L and Val C emerged as worthy winners with 3 wins and a points difference of 20. Just ahead of Angela D, John B and Simon C who also had 3 wins but just lost out with a points difference of 9.

Thank you to everyone who competed and as always thanks to everyone who helped with the organisation and delivery. You know who you are.

Our mixed team travelled to Wealden IBC on Saturday in the hope of extending our unbeaten start to the season to 5 games - a big ask in an away game but we are ever hopeful.

Sadly it wasn't to be and we were beaten 101-81, winning only 1 of the 6 rinks.

Next up - a local derby v Horsham (outdoors) on the 13th.

A brilliant day of fun bowling across both Short and Long Mat today at our 3rd Annual Long v Short competition.

24 players on each team striving to prove that size doesn't matter. It does. The Short Mat team won 7 of the 8 rinks on Short Mat and the Long Mat team won 7 of the 8 rinks on Long Mat.

Congratulation to the teams who managed to win on both disciplines -

- Claire D, Mike S and Steve D for Long Mat at 11-0 and 9-1
- Irene P, Joan S and Neil W for Short Mat at 10-1 and 14-1.

After a win for Short Mat in 2025 and revenge for Long Mat in 2026 a draw today was a good result for both teams, and more importantly great fun was had by all.

Pictured with the fantastically expensive trophy (made of crystal glass so thin and fragile it barely registers in the photo) are Keith T and Margaret T.

Thanks to everyone who played a part, large or small, in making this happen.

A great mixed friendly against Worthing yesterday saw Horsham claiming 4 of the 6 rinks and the overall match at 98-81.

So that's 4 wins in 4 games -2 home, 2 away - a very impressive start to the Summer season.

Top rink for Horsham, just, was Jim D , Martin F-D and Neil W.

Next up - 6th June, away to Wealden.

Our 100% record in the Summer friendly matches is maintained with a 109-78 home win against Adur.

We lost 3 of the 5 rinks but convincing wins in the other 2 gave us the overall win. Top rinks, both with a 22 point advantage, went to Jeanne C, Brian E and Jan B and also Dick C, Paul L and Dave W.

Special mention to Janet N who stepped in as a last minute replacement to play her first ever match.

And thank you to Pauline for the Choc Ices.
