Horsham Park Bowls had similar results in two local derbies. In each match they won on two rinks and lost on two, but lost both matches overall.
In Park’s home game against Handcross, they lost overall by 27 shots, 51-78. It was an afternoon of starkly contrasting fortunes across the green, with dominant performances from both clubs splitting the rinks right down the middle, though the visitors ultimately secured the overall aggregate victory.
Park’s best team were Richard Goodchild, Alan Setchell, and Bryony Wood who were ahead by end 10, but faced a strong fightback in the second half. They managed to steady the ship in the closing ends, finding their clinical edge just when it mattered most to secure a well-played 20-11 victory.
Clive Wall, Marie Davies, and David Dunnington had a strong start and completely dominated the middle ends. They found their rhythm early on, keeping the pressure firmly on the opposition to build a comfortable cushion and finished with a great effort to win 18-12.
Beryl Noble, Josie Allen, and Kamran Nadim found the going difficult against a strong side, finishing 7-28. Despite facing a highly clinical away trio who ran away with the momentum in the second half, they kept battling hard until the final wood.
Steve Uwins, Julie Stone, and Farron Calver battled hard throughout, ending with a score of 6-30. While the final scoreline didn't quite reward their persistence, they put up a spirited fight against a very powerful Handcross combination that gave away very little all afternoon.
In Park’s away game against Horsham they lost 57-68. It was a highly competitive afternoon of bowls, with fortunes swinging back and forth across the greens before the hosts ultimately secured the narrow aggregate victory. Horsham had also won the first leg, so retained the ‘Town Challenge’ trophy.
Their top team of Clive Wall, Sheila Howard, and Kamran Nadim had a strong start and completely dominated the middle ends. They found their line and length early on, leaving their opponents struggling to respond, and finished with a great effort to win 21-11.
Farron Calver, Tony Russell and Graham Roots were behind by end 10, but put in a solid second half. They rallied brilliantly in the later stages, picking up crucial shots to turn the momentum in their favour and finish with a well-deserved 19-16 victory.
Stephen Uwins, David Dunnington, and Bryony Wood found the going difficult against a strong side, finishing 7-18. Despite the tough opposition and a tricky green, they kept fighting until the final end.
Harry Bailey, Brian Milner, and Angela Spurr battled hard throughout, ending with a score of 10-23. While the scoreline didn't quite reflect their persistence, they put up a spirited performance against a very clinical home trio.
