Our dedicated Rookie Sessions are over, but that’s not your last chance to join the Chargers 💜🏈

We’re still training every Monday and newbies are welcome to join us throughout February.

If you’re looking for a new sport or just want to get more active, come down and meet the team. It’s a great way to start the week and we can promise a few laughs as well as a workout!

🚨Rookie days are confirmed!🚨

Leeds Chargers are recruiting for the 2025 season and we’re running three open training sessions for new players:

- Monday 20 January
- Monday 27 January
- Monday 3 February

All sessions will be 7pm-9:30pm at West Leeds RUFC, Blue Hill Lane, LS12 4NZ. You can come along to as many as you like!

There’s no need to register in advance for a specific session, but if you haven’t done so already, please fill in our Google Form so we can send you our Rookie pack before the sessions start with everything you need to know 🦄🏈

It’s not just players we’re looking for this season, the Chargers are also seeking new positional coaches!

Whether you’re passionate about offense or defense, no matter the position, as long as you’re interested in coaching women’s sport we’d love to hear from you.

We’re lucky enough to have a great bunch of coaches, most of whom have now been with us for a number of seasons. So you’d be joining an established team with plenty of support around.

As promised, here’s part 2 featuring our Game Ball winners who were recognised at our end of season awards just over a week ago.

These 6 ballers picked up MVP for their on-field brilliance, and three of them were rookies this year! 👏👏👏

This sadly brings us to the end of our 2024 season celebrations - stay tuned as it won’t be long at all before we start to gear up for 2025…! 💜🦄🏈

You thought awards spam was over?! You are sorely mistaken 🥰

Last Friday we also presented the 14 players who picked up Game Balls this year with their medals. I think the Coaches were making up for the fact we only had four regular season games, as they gave out 23 in total! 🦄💜

These 8 ballers all picked up multiple MVPs during the season for their stellar efforts on the field 👏👏

We’ve made it to our final award for 2024!

Charger of the year is voted jointly by both players and coaches and aims to recognise a player who has made a big contribution on the field, but also made an impact everywhere else too.

For 2024, Charger of the Year was awarded to .honest.athlete 👏👏

Meg was Squad Captain and Social Sec this season, and her teammates highlighted how they valued her 1-2-1 support and how she rallied the team together and motivated us to go the extra mile. Another player willing to do whatever was asked of them, both on and off the field, providing fantastic support to the coaches too 💜

‘Couldn’t think of anyone who is more ‘Chargery’ than Meg’ said one of her nominations – and we very much agree. Congratulations Meg, and thank you for everything this year 🦄🏈

Special mention went to - they gave absolutely everything and then some for the team this year. Playing in multiple positions on both sides of the ball, this year could have gone very differently if it wasn’t for their willingness and drive to do whatever was asked of them ✨💜

also picked up a special mention for being a cornerstone of the team this year, supporting players, coaches and committee members alike. Always pushing those around her to be their best, whilst also managing to dominate every snap she was part of 💅🎉

Our penultimate award last Friday was Special Teams MVP as voted by our Coaches. For 2024 this went to 👏👏

Liv can sometimes go under the radar, but no matter whether she was kicking, blocking, returning, or tackling, she consistently put herself out there 100% for the team and did a phenomenal job - she was our hero on many occasion 💜

Liv has decided to hang up her cleats after a decade playing with the Chargers, which provided us with a very emotional end to the evening. We’re going to miss her terribly but know she’ll be cheering us on from the sideline 🦄🏈

It wouldn’t be an awards night without something for 👏👏 Gabs was the players choice for 2024 Special Teams MVP. Sadly she couldn’t join us on the night as she was having too much fun away for her birthday 🎉

We all know Gabs as an absolute touchdown machine, but her teammates also recognised her ability to literally do it all – stopping our opposition scoring with her fearless blocking and lethal tackling as well as making big returns 🦄🏈

‘A master of all trades’ as one of the nominations aptly put it. Congratulations Gabs! 💜

Next up was Defence MVP. Players and coaches also agreed on the winner for this award – with scooping the double 👏👏

Emma was called out as a vital part of the Defence this year, who made big strides in her primary role on D-Line but also stepped outside of her comfort zone to cover other positions when the team needed her 💜

Adventures in the backfield, tackles galore, and the odd dead bug combined to make another fantastic season. Emma also earnt her first GB Lions cap this year, so it’s been extra special – congratulations! 🦄👹

Next up - Offence. Players and coaches each get to award an Offence MVP – and this year they both chose as their winner 👏 (who managed to not cry just long enough to take a picture!)

Despite age somewhat catching up with her, Emma played every single offensive snap this season, and was recognised for her dominant blocking up front on the O-Line as well as setting an example with her positive attitude and commitment to training and the team 💜🦄

Special mention went to who had another stellar season as QB and Offence Captain – putting in a huge shift on special teams too ✨🏈

Our second award of the night, Rookie of the year, was hotly contested. We were so lucky with the talent that joined Chargers in 2024.

The official youngster of the team .nowell picked up the coveted prize after a brilliant debut season 👏👏 Both coaches and players called out how quickly Macy got to grips with the complexities of football, her willingness to try new things, and recognised the bright future she has ahead of her.

Special mention went to , who also had an incredible first season with the Chargers, causing major bother to O-Lines everywhere! 💜

Both Macy and Natty also picked up nominations for Defence MVP which goes to show just how much of an impact they’ve made in a short space of time.

Congratulations Macy, we can’t wait to see what you can achieve next season! 🦄🏈
