Last Saturday the Lincolnshire Premier Cricket League Premier Division came to a head with Bourne and Scunthorpe going head to head for the title facing each other in a winner takes all match. What does this have to do with Horncastle CC you ask…… well the captains of both teams were products of our academy coming through our junior programme and into our senior squads at a young age.
Bourne skipper Dan Freeman made a huge impact with us scoring some big hundreds and even double hundreds! He went on to represent Nottinghamshire Academy and now is a Premier League Champion as Captain of Bourne.
Henry Wilson is a wonderful batter and off spinner and has made a huge impact at the highest level in the county leading Scunthorpe to the league title in 2024 scoring centuries along the way.
Huge congratulations to both Dan and Henry for their wonderful journeys so far in cricket, all of us at Horncastle CC are very proud of you both! Hope you both never forget where it all started for you 🏏❤️

FIRST LEAGUE WIN SINCE 7TH JUNE!

Our Sunday XI got over the line yesterday at home to Blankney to record the first league win for any of our senior teams since 7th June!
Captain Tom Hackett (Harpars Bar) lost the toss and was surprised when the visitors elected to bat on a softish green deck. Sabbir Ahmed and N. Nelson made early inroads dismissing both opening batters. Blankney managed to put together some partnerships but our bowlers kept to the task and took wickets at regular intervals to peg them back. Further wickets for Sabs (3-34) and Nelson (2-17) before an excellent spin partnership from skipper Hackett (2-21) and Rob Bee (Francs Brunch & Burgers) (3-19) helped to bowl Blankney out for 162 from 35 overs.
Sabs and Nelson continued their partnership opening the batting and got us off to a decent start putting on 27 for the first wicket. Josh Bouchereau joined Nelson and dug in against some quality bowling. Josh was brave and got in line and saw off the opening bowlers. Nelson (23) and Josh (3) were caught which brought Rob Bee and Tom Hackett to the crease. These two played themselves in then expanded their range of shots with the boundaries starting to come. They reached their 50 partnership taking the score past 100 and that elusive victory was edging closer. Hackett was then bowled by the returning opener for a well made 30 leaving us on 127-4 and 36 short of victory. 3 more wickets followed with Rob adding a few runs inbetween bringing the visitors right back into the game. Jim Martin (The King's Treasure ) joined Rob at the crease still 18 runs shy of the target. In his usual style Jim battled hard and ate up 12 valuable balls while Rob kept chipping away at the target bringing up his 50 in the process. Jim was then bowled bringing Ollie Martin in at number 10 with 10 runs needed and only 5 overs to go. Ollie dug in and together with Rob victory was sealed with 10 balls to spare! Rob batted brilliantly to end up not out on 60 to see the team home! So good to get that elusive win for the club and see lots of smiles on faces around the club too! Well done all!
