Sophie has ridden from the age of two. She competed for the Pony Club at the tender age of just nine at the Area Dressage. She won the Senior Individual Eventing Championships at Weston Park. Sophie competed in Working Hunter Ponies, she represented Britain on many occasions. She won at The Royal International, The Royal and she finally won the Reserve Supreme Working Hunter Pony of the year at the BSPS Championships. Sophie was Reserve for the British Pony Eventing Team for the European Championships. She came 7th at Wembley on her pony, Westfalia Metatron in the Junior Foxhunter Final. In 1991 she went to work for the Prolific Eventing and Showing Trainer, Ruth McMullen. During this time Sophie worked with Pippa Funnell, Bumble Thomas and Terry Boon etc. Sophie gained valuable experience learning how to run a Professional Event yard as well as breaking in race and event horses. In 1992 Sophie won The Junior National Three Day Event Champion at Windsor on a horse called Hillside Ghost, this was some feat as he was only six years old. Sophie went on to represent Great Britain in the Young Rider Team at the European Three Day Event Championships at Blenheim and in Germany. Sophie had Top Ten Placings at Bramham and Blenheim CCI **** events. Sadly on both occasions she was entered for Badminton her horse went lame. Sophie has worked on Andrew Nicholson’s Event yard where she was given the chance to compete two of Andrew’s young event horses. She gained more experience and knowledge of riding, turnout and management of top class horses. Sophie has groomed at European Championships, Badminton and Burghley for Daisy Berkeley (nee Dick) and Bumble Thomas. Sophie has worked on a racing yard riding Yearlings to National Hunt horses, travelled to race meetings, gaining further experience with fit and feisty colts! She has worked at Kempton and Sandown Racecourse driving the on duty vets. Sophie found this incredibly interesting and valuable in dealing with many different injuries. Sophie worked at Scott Dunns horse clinic looking after sick/injured /recovering horses, while there Sophie assisted with many operations. This experience of seeing many ailments and lamness has stood Sophie in good stead for care of horses on her yard. Sophie has produced and trained horses and riders to all levels of competition. Oli Smith, Team Silver Medallist at the Young Rider European Championship 2004, came to my yard having never competed and trained by Sophie achieved this result. Sophie is renowned for the horses looking immaculately turned out . From those going to Badminton *****, to an unaffiliated Dressage competition or hacking round the forest all are looked after and turned out to the same high standard.
