🧠 For me, both have a place and a purpose. The high guard enables you to more comfortably sit in the pocket and exploit openings created when you are attacked. The half guard enables a greater level of reactivity with footwork and head movement. High guard generally slows hand speed and limits shot variation, half guard improves speed and offers more variety. High guard is ‘clearer’ defensively to judges, half guard can be misinterpreted. The reality of the whole thing is that both are brilliant when used correctly and both are terrible when used poorly.

Wins, losses and draws matter - but only when it comes to WHO you’re winning against, losing to and drawing with.

Winning against ‘gimmes’ isn’t more impressive than drawing against LB4LB top 10 ranked fighters.

Putting in a decent performance against an elite boxer is better than steamrolling a ‘nobody’.

Boxing needs to return to the times of glorifying fights for facing the best; win, lose or draw. If the best fight the best then someone HAS to lose (or draw lol).

Roach is still hunting more big fights even off the back of losing to Zepeda and, hopefully, he will grow from that loss and comeback better.

I like his attitude, his humility and his courage.
