Hook BJJ

Hook BJJ We teach the art of immobilisation which leads to breaking and strangulation. This is Hook Grappling

In a world that seems more disconnected than ever, it’s amazing what can happen when people come together around a shared challenge.

Different ages.

Different backgrounds.

Different jobs.

Different lives.

Yet somehow, for a few hours each week, we’re all in the same room helping each other improve.

What starts as training often becomes friendship.

And friendship becomes community.

That’s what makes this place special.

Not just the Jiu Jitsu.

The people.

REAL LIFE.
REAL TRAINING.
REAL PROGRESS.

Most people think submissions are all about the finish.

We see them as a control problem first.

We explored how controlling the head and arm with our legs creates opportunities for both strangles and armlocks. Starting from closed guard, we worked on keeping the head and arm trapped between our legs before progressing to top positions from the armbar breaking position and kimura.

The goal wasn’t to memorise techniques.

The goal was to develop the ability to recognise, secure, and exploit the head-and-arm connection wherever it appears.

Control creates opportunities. Opportunities create submissions.

Most people who start here almost didn’t come.

They spend weeks — sometimes months — telling themselves:
“I need to get fitter first.”
“I’m probably too old.”
“I’ll look stupid.”
“Everyone there will already know what they’re doing.”

Then they finally walk through the door…

…and realise it’s just normal people.

Parents.
Workers.
People tired after long days.
People trying to build confidence, get healthier, make friends, and challenge themselves.

Nobody expects you to be good when you start.

You just have to start.

That’s it.

REAL LIFE.
REAL TRAINING.
REAL PROGRESS.

Most adults aren’t struggling with motivation.

They’re struggling with balancing life.

Work.Family.Responsibility.Stress.Trying to make time for themselves too.

That’s why this club means so much to a lot of people.

It’s somewhere to switch off, challenge yourself, and be around good people.

Real life.Real training.Real progress 👊

This isn’t a highlight reel.

This is real life.

A full-time job.
Being a dad.
Running a club.
Trying to train myself.
Trying to keep showing up for the people around me.

And honestly… most of our members are doing the same.

Parents.
Shift workers.
Business owners.
People carrying stress, responsibility, and long days, but still finding time to improve themselves.

That’s what Hook Grappling is about.

Not perfection.
Not pretending.

Just normal people showing up, supporting each other, and trying to become a little better every day.

We want to show you the real side of training.
The ups, downs, and everything in between.

See you on the mats 👊

Walking into a BJJ gym for the first time can feel intimidating.
We get it. Most people who start have the same thoughts:

“What if I’m not fit enough?”
“What if I don’t know what I’m doing?”
“What if everyone is better than me?”

The truth is… everyone starts somewhere.

At Hook Grappling we’ll take care of you from day one. No ego, no pressure, just good people, great vibes, supportive coaching, and a room full of teammates who want to see you improve.

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need to be in shape first.
You just need to start.

BJJ can help you build confidence, get fitter, challenge yourself, and become part of an amazing community. The hardest part is usually just walking through the door for the first time.

We’ll help with the rest. 👊

Most people in BJJ focus too much on outcomes.

The sweep.
The pass.
The submission.

But the real question is:

What conditions made it possible?

Inside position.
Connection.
Head position.
Off-balancing.
Immobilisation.

If you understand these deeply, you stop relying on perfect techniques and start becoming adaptable.

That’s real skill development.

At Hook Grappling we want problem solvers, not movement copiers.

Every game should teach a grappling problem.

Not just recreate a technique.

This round was focused on:
connection → destabilisation → access to centre mass.

The goal wasn’t memorisation.

The goal was adaptation under pressure.
