As many of you will know, Ian Beningfield (or Benny as he was known to many) sadly passed away in May suddenly after a short illness. This year's MG Car Club event on the 12th September is named in his honour.

Ian was a fierce competitor in his MG Midget and was involved with both the MG Car Club and Classic Marques Sports Car Club. Ian was not only a competitor but also involved in various administrative roles too including MGCC SW Centre Chairman and Clerk of the Course. Ian worked for the Meningitis Research Foundation.

You can read Ian’s obituary here https://www.mgccsw.com/2026/05/13/ian-beningfield/

The Meningitis Research Foundation have set up a 'muchloved' page for those of you who wish to make a donation. Thank you.

Last weekend the Five Clubs event celebrated its 50th Anniversary. On Saturday evening, to commemorate this achievement, Dave Pearce cooked a plentiful supply of noodles for everyone in the paddock which went down very well as you can see!

The Five Clubs events are organised by Plymouth, Burnham-on-Sea, Taunton and Bristol MC’s (Haldon MC folded in 1996). Congratulations to Five Clubs – and we look forward to the next fifty years!

Thank you to Dave for sharing the photo’s.

The end of the season is fast approaching now and at last weekend’s Five Clubs event there were a further two rounds of the Wiscombe Park Tillicoultry Quarries Championship.

Our Championship Co-ordinator, Steph Thomas, has now completed her number crunching and we now have the updated Championship positions after allowing for “dropped scores”. It is a seven round Championship and drivers can count their best five results.

And still leading the way is our 2025 Young Driver of The Year, Henri Gosney. He had another faultless weekend on the hill at the Five Clubs event, and set a new Junior Class Record on Sunday to further strengthen his position at the top of the Championship. Henri has now completed his season and will not be competing this weekend.

Julian Rinaldi is feeling the benefit of the new engine that was fitted to the Fiesta in July and he moved into second place. It was a frustrating weekend for Steve Wareham after breaking a shaft on Saturday morning – speedily fixed during lunch – he was back in action for the afternoon session. Steve dropped to fourth in the Championship.

Another strong weekend for Paul Reynolds and he moved up two places to third.

A new entry into the Top 6 – welcome Rod Thorne! After a season in his TR7 V8, Rod has spent this season back in his Pilbeam MP43 – his “happy place”. Rod moved from ninth into fifth place.

Andrew Forsyth is a non-mover at sixth. In a very rare occurrence for Andrew, his Five Clubs Sunday ended with him taking the nose off his OMS CF04 at Martini after glancing the bank on his second timed run.

At this weekend’s MG Car Club event on Saturday, we have the final Round – you do not want to miss it – tickets are available from our web site at a discount up to 6pm on Friday https://www.wiscombepark.co.uk/events and then on the gate - £14 - under 16’s FREE.
