Feniton Youth Cricket Club - BBQ and Presentation afternoon 2026.

Today’s match sees Feniton take on Sidbury for the last game of the cricket season. Only one change to the team today as Alex Plumley comes back in for Barry Wood after several weeks out.

Hopefully today the match will go ahead but with a large amount of much needed rain due across the country, There’s a chance the match will be cancelled.

MATCH REPORT- Feniton 1st vs Ottery st Mary 2nd

Ottery win by 7 wickets.

Feniton started today by losing the toss but asked to bat first.

Reece and Neil were the opening batters.

It took a while for Feniton to get going and the run rate per over was just above 3. A steady start but still no immediate wicket that Feniton usually fall too in the first few overs. However after Feniton went into the 30s the first wicket was taken with Neil being caught.

It took a while for the next wicket with Reece getting a solid 35 runs before also being caught. Dan Mortimer was next after only 2 balls securing the first duck of the day. From then on Feniton was losing wickets and losing them fast. Alfie Gibbins went next after scoring 8. Nigel went just a few balls later. Barry was the next to score a duck after facing 3 balls.

Mark Salter went next after also scoring 0 runs. The ducks were coming thick and fast and the next duck went to Riley Burgess after facing an agonising 21 balls. Feniton were really hoping the next batters would take a foothold of the game. Martyn and Francis Perryman were the next batters in. Martyn was playing some nice cricket with a 3 fours hit that any batter would have been proud of.

A little win for today was Martyn Lewis getting his person best of 16 of 35 balls. He unfortunately was caught behind. The last wicket going to Francis Perryman being caught to seal Fenitons fate with a total of 116.

Ottery st Mary to bat next.

After the first couple of overs Feniton were on fire and getting 3 wickets off Ottery in quick succession. Unfortunately though Feniton would be disappointed as Ottery at Mary’s opening batter scored 70 runs from 75 balls faced and another batter getting 29 from 44. Taking into account wides once again Feniton were left waiting for a league win this season with one left to play.

Feniton could have made this a close game as in total there was 8 dropped catches. A couple from the opening batsman. Hopefully we can learn from these mistakes and make a good showing next week.

Next week sees Feniton finish the season at Sidbury away.

Today’s match versus Ottery 2nds sees Feniton looking for a win on the last home game of the season.

Captain Nigel has made a few changes bringing back Martyn Lewis, Riley Burgess, Barry Wood. With Ottery being our local rivals Feniton will be looking to get a local victory to lift the spirits after a disappointing season.

With Feniton already being relegated, we will be hoping to put in a decent performance after last weeks disastrous loss at Thorverton where Feniton had 3 ducks!

Hopefully today we will see some true village cricket fight and take home the win!

So come and join us for some entertainment and fun!

Today’s away match against Thorverton 2nds see a much changed side. With Peter Avery returned as Wicketkeeper. Also Francis Perryman returns as does Sam Vincent, Rowan Hewitt.

Feniton hoping this is the week that Feniton gets a win, after a very good victory earlier this week in a T20 friendly.

Spirits should be raised and captain Nigel will once again rally the troops in place of current first team captains Adam’s American getaway 🇺🇸

MATCH REPORT - Cullompton 2nd XI E Division East

Today’s match started with Nigel losing the toss however Feniton were told to bat first.

Feniton started well with both Mark Salter and Neil Anning getting 25 and 13. Neil being caught behind and Mark bowled by a decent ball.

Nigel (C) came on at number 3 to try and keep Feniton going, with his first ball managing 2 runs, showing intent from the off. Nigel also managing 13 runs before getting a nick off his bat and also being caught behind.

Cullompton still did not let off the gas and applied more pressure to the next batters which were Reece and Sam. Reece managed the second highest total for the day for Feniton with 17 before being caught.

Sam looked in control especially with a nice shot that went for 4 but the then went for 6 runs to another lovely ball from Cullomptons top bowler.

Dan Mortimer and Alfie Gibbins were the next 2 batters in but could only manage 6 for Dan (no boundaries) and 5 for Alfie with a good shot for a boundary. Dan being caught and Alfie also getting caught behind.

Riley and Barry were next in to face Cullomptons ruthless bowler. Riley being caught behind and going for 4 runs. Barry managed to stay in the game for the rest of the match but only managed to face 6 balls. He did however get 5 runs in total- one of which was hit beautifully for a boundary.

Martyn Lewis went in next but only managed a single run before getting out via a LBW. Jamie Woodgates came in as last man and managed 2 runs before being bowled leaving Feniton all out for 115 runs. Which is a respectable score considering being in a tough division and one of the Cullompton bowlers managing an impressive 6 wickets against us.

It was then Cullomptons turn to bat and from the start they showed real intent at getting this match over quickly.

Batter 1 and 2 scoring 28 and 19.
Batter 3 and 4 scoring 8 and 28
Batter 5 scoring 10 and batter six not needed.

Extras were aplenty with 23 in total

Special shout out to Sam Blackmore though for taking 3 wickets against very good opposition. Also a wicket for Barry.

All in all despite the loss Feniton did not manage any Ducks today but there was a dropped catch from Salter which he knows he should have caught, as he’s caught more difficult ones this season.

Feniton manage to get 4 points with Cullompton taking the maximum of 20.

Player of the match today was S.Blackmore for the 3 wickets and DOTD went to R.burgess for not moving his feet as the wicketkeeper resulting in runs for the opposition.

After the match captain Nigel had this to say 🗣️

Today came down to small margins however there was some nice little wins that we can take with us going into next season. Especially everyone getting a run at least which is an improvement on previous matches. Nobody should be disappointed today other than unfortunately not getting our first win. Sam and Barry both getting wickets was good to see and the catch of the day being from Reece which was impressive. Drop of the day goes to Salter.

50-2 was a good start for us but we just couldn’t keep the momentum going.
