Amir got lucky with the weather on Anglesey and it could have not been better! A day of wind and rough water exposures in Trearddur Bay including rescues and boat handling, a introduction to the tide races at Rhoscolyn Beacon and surfing at Cymeran. Lots of rock gardening, tactics and skills. A full day at a very dynamic Penrhyn Mawr. We also went shopping at Summit to Sea, picked up a new paddle at Celtic Paddles, checked out South Stack from the cliffs, and went coasteering around the rock in Porth Diana. Improving weather meant we also could do the the Stacks in all their glory and to finish the week we went to the Skerries from Cemlyn. Lot's of Puffins and Terns about. As requested by Amir, we covered a lot of content of the Advanced Sea Leader Award including tidal diamonds, vectors, C.L.A.P, decision making, scoop rescue, rolling...the list is to long really. 🙂
Looking forward to welcoming you to the training in November.

Just some final shots from our Raasey excursion. After having "endured" some windy days in the north, we were in luck on days 6 and 7. A fine crossing from the Crowlins back to Kyle, and a final camp on Skye. We had a social evening under the tarp, watching an Otter hunt, with Raasey whiskey-sponsored by , reminiscing about the past days and celebrating Ian's birthdays.
Thank you Lucy, Ian and Zoltan for a great trip. It was a blast and I hope we'll paddle again soon.

After managing to get to the top of Raasay, we had to abandon plans for Rona and drop down on the west side, with the N4-6! A pretty committing paddle!
We did a short port between Fladday and Rassay to appreciate the landscape 😆.
Our night was spent in Rassay harbour (coffee stop). A solid 24k day.
On we went in the morning and paddled around the bottom of Raasay and crossed to Crowlin islands with a northerly F4 for another night.
Very cosy spot I must say.

Some more headwind today, with a 5BFT on the nose for a while, but a few Eagle sightings, a pod of dolphins at a great Lunchspot, some more Otters and a great campsite on the northern tip of Raasay. The wind is blowing up even more tomorrow, depending which forcast one believes. Decision decisions
Great effort again by the gang to bank 24+ km.

Had a bit of slogfest today. A constant 4BFT, at times 5-6 directly on the nose. Had a great Otter sighting with 2 feeding unbothered by our presence.
The team did great and we managed to get on to Raasay. The weather is being pretty harsh with sunshine one minute and hail the next… front after front. Still great to be out here though

We’re off.
Day one of arriving, packing, paddling a finding a wild camp on this years SKA‘s Scotland trip.
We‘ll be exploring the islands between the Scottish westcoast and the Isl. of Skye.
Pabay, Scalpay, Raasay and Rona. It’s a cool spring up here with a fair bit of northerlies.

We just wrapped up a fantastic week of park'n'play sea kayaking with a team from Finnland. Jalo-Aatos Alastalo, , Pekka , Pertti and Anssi were in luck as Anglesey delivered the good. A warm up in the Menai Straights to get in to paddling in tide, followed by swell laden days and surfing amazing "Cornish" surf, rock garden shenanigans and a amazing Penrhyn Mawr tide race session followed by a South Stack excursion where decision making and risk management took up the headline. As the wind picked up later in the week, T-bay delivered a fun rock-surf feature where we spent hours catching waves, paddle the highest seas of the week and worked through some incident management involving a raft and surf. We paddled around the remote north west corner of Anglesey, Carmel head, on the last day, making the most of a strong south westerly and the flood.
In till next time gang, it was a blast!

Well hello everyone. I hope you all are having a good winter and are thinking about what new paddling adventures the pre-season and season will bring.
We have made an update to our 10 day sea leader training and are offering a 7 day training in conjunction. There are a couple more spots, starting on the 16th and 19th of March respectively. We have also still space on a 16h outdoor first aid training with Nick Goodall, starting on the 17th of March.
We also had to adjust the Islay/Jura expedition from 10 days to 7 days and have dropped the price accordingly. Still collaborating with Zoltan Bruckner from Explorers Kayaking - Felfedezők and the plan is still the same. Living out of our boats for the duration of the trip, seeing wildlife and finding remoteness.

Furthermore are there still some spots available on our Shetland adventure, working with Jackie from Sea kayak adventures, Cornwall. We will likely mix campsite stays and wild camping.

If any of this sounds like of interest to you, please get in touch.

cheers,

Mirco

Hello folks,
I hope you’ll had a good Christmas and Santa delivered some goods for the salty times.
We’ve now opened a new 7 day Sea Leader training in March for those who want to deep dive in to leadership principles, navigation, skills etc. We are also likely to do a night nav and spend a night or two wild camping.
Please get in touch if this sounds like up your street.

Right. Just some action shots from the last SKA Advanced Water course of 2025. Congratulations to and Dave for gaining their BCAW Advanced SK Coastal Award. Great to have Mark and Leslie along as well Helen for some support. It was a rather windy one but we managed a Penrhyn Mawr experience, had a T-bay 6/7bft day with great swells! Rock garden tactics, rolling an ocean play in the rough was called for. We did a downwinder in the Menai Straits with F5-6, and that was very enjoyable. The last day nearly blew us out of the water for about 20 min, but it calmed down just enough to have a nice finish to our course program for the year.
