A great couple of days running a BC Sea Kayak Leader training with three keen people. From the start, decision making was in play, from where to begin our day, to on the water decisions. Nice playful waves in Trearddur Bay, produced the perfect start with controlled landings, low braces moves accross the beach (to refresh/warm up body and mind) and some surf play.
Rolling, self and assisted rescues, contact tows, towline work and a nice journey around Ravens Point to Porth y Garan. Which provided a taste of assessment conditions and working through CLAP.
Day two was in the Menai Straight's and was a real contrast to our previous blue sky sunny day. Wet, misty and windy was the theme so some wind work was perfect and it was a great session Zoe ran - lovely to see individuals really focussed, gaining control and becoming more relaxed in conditions.
It was a super small neap tide so we headed into the Swellies in the last two hours of the ebb and just about found some current to work with, eddy turns and leadership sections. After lunch we created some nice circuits playing with the early flood and considering eddy turns, S turns, ferry glides and how consider the kayaks angle to the flow can help to create success. Action plan's and individual chats finished a satisfying two days.
Well done to Emily, Eamon and Neil. Thanks to Zoe for her support and inputs.
