Two wins on the bounce for the ladies! 🌳
A fantastic all-round performance from the Holsworthy Ladies 1st XI saw them secure a convincing nine-wicket victory away at Chagford on Sunday, collecting another impressive 20 league points in the process.
After winning the toss, Chagford elected to bat, but Holsworthy’s bowlers quickly settled into their work and kept the pressure on throughout the innings. Chagford got off the mark quickly, with plenty of edges finding gaps and racing away on the fast outfield. They soon started putting runs on the board, but Holsworthy were ready to fight back. S. Poll, making her debut for the team, held onto a safe catch in the field to help the captain claim the first wicket of the innings — a great start to her Holsworthy career!
J Gardener was the pick of the attack, producing a superb spell of 6 overs, 2 maidens, 6 runs and 4 wickets. She was well supported by F Godfrey (6-0-27-2), L Godfrey (5.4-2-20-2), G Kirby (4-0-22-1) and S Ashford (2-0-7-1).
Despite B Barlow-Endacott top-scoring for Chagford with 27 from 24 balls, wickets fell regularly and Chagford were eventually bowled out for 94 in 23.4 overs. Holsworthy’s bowling unit shared all ten wickets, with four maidens and some excellent pressure bowling helping restrict the hosts.
With 95 required for victory, Holsworthy got off to a brilliant start. S Poll and H Steadman put together an excellent 80-run opening partnership, taking the game firmly away from Chagford.
Poll played positively, striking 29 from 40 balls, including five boundaries, before being dismissed lbw by Barlow-Endacott. That brought F Godfrey to the crease, who joined Steadman to calmly finish the job.
Steadman was outstanding at the top of the order, carrying her bat for a superb 42 from 64 balls*, including three fours. Godfrey finished unbeaten on 5 from 10 balls*, including a boundary, as Holsworthy reached 97/1 after just 18.3 overs.
