What a season our U9s have had! Winning 5 out of 7 tournaments to make it into the Champions of Champions tournament this morning. Competing against the best teams in the area and still managing to finish in 2nd place 🥈Well done U9s, such an achievement, we’re all really proud of you! 👏🙌🏏

Friends, family and cricketers came together at Upperthong Cricket Club last Saturday to remember David ‘Sutty’ Sutton.
David passed away in January this year and today would have marked his 85th birthday.
His wife Sue and daughters Kaye and Zoe cut a ribbon to inaugurate a bench dedicated to David and planted an Oak tree in his memory. Both were provided by UCC in recognition of David’s immense contribution to the club. His association with the club began from its inception back in the 1990’s through to just a couple of years ago. He worked tirelessly on the grounds, ensuring that what had been a farmers field became one of the most picturesque and well-tended cricket grounds in the country.
He built most of the existing clubhouse using his experience, knowledge and connections to create the original changing rooms and the bar. His technical and engineering skills meant that the club saved huge amounts of money as he was able to maintain most of the clubs equipment himself.
He was an enthusiastic supporter of the junior set up at Upperthong making sure that the junior pitches were every bit as good as the senior strips and often staying in the evenings to watch their games and run the bar alongside his wife Sue. It is impossible to put into words everything he did for the club but there is no question that he was a club legend, a proud Yorkshireman and a wonderful friend to everyone at the club.
There was a great turnout to remember his contribution to Upperthong Cricket Club and celebrate his forthcoming birthday with Sue, Kaye and Zoe 🤍
