Evening all!

It's been a while since we have been active on here!

Just to get us back in the swing of things we thought we'd share a few pics of some lovely stock that went into Alton a couple of weeks back. 18 fish from Priory Fisheries. Good ones too at 13-19lb a fish.

We have a great programme of stocking planned and are looking to opening up more swims on the site too so we hope to see the fishing go from strength to strength.

Tight lines and see you on site soon!

🤯🇬🇧 BIG NEWS! 🤯🇬🇧

63lbs 6oz of VS mirror banked!

Just as we we were finishing the newsletter this weekend we had news of the first 60lbs plus carp (which we can talk about) that was supplied from us here at VS Fisheries. Luke Anderson landed the massive Harrow bloodline mirror known as Moon Scale on Saturday from a Kent club water and after careful weighing it pushed the scales round to 63lbs 6oz.

Our relationship with the venue started with a consultancy visit to the newly acquired lake and a stocking plan was designed in conjunction with the clubs ideas for the lake. The lake was stocked with a mix of 450 3 and 4 summer fish in late 2013. This particular fish was introduced at 11lbs into the Kent Club water and has grown consistently year upon year with its previous best weight being 59lbs plus last autumn.

Huge congratulations to Luke and the angling club! Excited to see how this one grows in the coming years and who knows perhaps a new British Record in the making!? 👀

Quick update.
Online ticket sales will become available for all Anglian Water fisheries over the coming days. You will find all day tickets and dawn till dusk season tickets will be available to purchase online for both Alton and Ardleigh.
24hr season permits currently have little or no availability and therefore these will show as not available.
Following purchasing your ticket online, you will receive a confirmation email along with access to a site map and gate combination codes.
Its likely that we will make amends to this new site over the initial weeks but the online system will be a great move forward for us.
Ticket prices for the next 12 months are set at:
Day ticket £10
Day concession £8
Adult season dawn till dusk £70
Concession season dawn till dusk £60
24 hr joining fee £75
24 hr season renewal £275

Thanks to Tom from Priory fisheries, we took delivery of a small number of fantastic looking Carp along with over 800 Tench. These were stocked into our Alton and Ardleigh fisheries as part of our stocking program, and will help to ensure that the fisheries continue to provide quality angling in future years.

Following reports of Roach being caught showing signs of infection, we contacted Ian Welby from Blueroof who studied the photos and made the following comment:

Yes they look like the fish have a bacterial infection, probably Aeromonas. It is the sort of thing that is always in a water body and occasionally you get flare ups of disease like this. It is often associated with previous damage to the fish - something like a netting operation or excessive angling pressure and fish being held in keep nets for too long. However it does sometimes flare up without any previous damage, particularly in the spring as the fish prepare for spawning. It is always stressful for the fish as this time of year and they also tend to start bashing each other around as the sort out the pecking order for spawning.
Whilst it looks bad the fish can recover and survive well as the temperature warm they get through spawning and summer settles in.

Following Ian's comments and the fact that we are heading towards spawning, I would suggest that anglers reframe from using keepnets until spawning is over and the water temperatures have improved.

Hi All,
Quick update on renewals. We are moving away from the current photo ID and issuing credit card size membership cards. As these will not be a photo ID, you may be required to produce a second form of ID on inspection. We are expecting the new tickets to arrive anytime soon and will then post these to anyone waiting. Those of you that are currently waiting for your new ticket, please continue to fish and show your receipt or confirmation email when required.

2022 season update.
Following such a good season for catch rates, it's been a hard 2022 so far. Hopefully the water temperature will now start to rise and the fish will begin to move again.
Later this season we will be adding to our Tench stocks with Priory fisheries supplying a number of fish to both Alton and Ardleigh.
We will be moving away from the photo ID season tickets this year and replacing them with a credit card size ticket.
After listening to anglers feedback, we have decided not to offer a number of joint Ardleigh/Alton season tickets but we will review this again at a later date.
Prices for Alton and Ardleigh have been aligned as follows:
Adult day £9
Concession day £7
On the bank day tickets £25 (no concession)
Dawn till dusk adult £70
Dawn till dusk concession £60
24hr season £200 (no concession & no joining fee)
Please ensure that you apply using the new form or your application will not be processed.
Regards
John
