Every year we're asked which teachers have had the biggest influence on our own practice and teaching.
For us, Ramiro is one of those people.

He first visited us before the shala even existed. Since then, he's returned as our community has grown, and each visit leaves us with fresh perspectives, a deeper appreciation for the practice, and a renewed sense of curiosity.

This October we're delighted to welcome him back once again.

Whether you've been practising for years or you're newer to Mysore, there are ways to take part throughout the weekend.

📅 2–4 October 2026

Friday • Philosophy Talk
Saturday • Mysore Practice • Teacher Development Intensive
Sunday • Mysore Practice • Beyond the Postures – a practical workshop exploring breath, transitions and the often-overlooked spaces that bring our practice together.

Available to book individual sessions or the whole weekend.

Around 75% of places have already been reserved, so if you've been thinking about joining us, we'd love to welcome you.

We often imagine progress as a straight line.

Every week a little stronger. Every month a little more flexible.

But most of us know it doesn't feel like that.

It looks more like waves.

Some days you feel open. Some days everything feels heavy. Sometimes it feels like you've gone backwards.

But if you zoom out...
the line is still rising.

That's what long-term practice often looks like.

This week, it became real.

Watching this group practise together, laugh together, eat together, swim together and support one another reminded us exactly why we share this beautiful practice.

Our first retreat was everything we hoped it could be—and somehow even more.

To everyone who trusted us enough to come along for the journey... thank you. You made this week incredibly special, and we'll carry these memories with us for a very long time.

A huge thank you to Tertsa Yoga & Retreats for creating such a beautiful space for us to call home for the week. The shala, the setting and the warmth of everyone there made it unforgettable.

And to Tereza Poljanic thank you for looking after us so beautifully. Every meal was made with such care and brought everyone together around the table each day.

We're already talking about the next one. ❤️

For a long time I thought good teaching was about knowing more.

More anatomy. More philosophy. More adjustments. More cues.
Those things matter.

But over the years, I've realised the teachers who changed me the most were the ones who really saw me.

As a student, that's something I've never forgotten and as a teacher, it's something I try to bring into every class.

When someone walks into the shala I ask how they are, not because its a common courtesy but because it makes a difference in how I can help facilitate their practice that day.

One of the biggest reasons people struggle to practise consistently isn't motivation.

It's trying to fit practice into an already busy life.

Most yoga classes start at one specific time.

Miss it, and you've missed it.

Mysore works differently.

You can arrive any time between 7–11am in the morning or 4:30–7:30pm in the evening.

Only have 20 minutes?

Come anyway.

Running late?

It's not a problem.

Some people practise for 20 minutes.
Others stay for an hour.
Some stay longer.

Practice becomes something that fits around your life.

Not the other way around.

And surprisingly, that's often what makes it sustainable.

Bit of a long one but felt the need to share ♡

People don't just bring their bodies to practice -

They bring stress from work.
Grief.
Big life changes.
Relationship struggles.
Burnout.
Joy.
Uncertainty.
Things they're carrying that nobody else can see.

Over the years, we've had many students walk through the doors of the shala and cry, because life has been hard.

One of the loveliest things about our community is that people feel able to arrive exactly as they are.

Sometimes yoga is about strength and flexibility.

Sometimes it's about having somewhere to breathe, to be supported, and to remember that you don't have to carry everything alone. Yoga can be a tool like it has been for all of our teachers here - to help move us through challenging periods in our lives as well as daily maintenance and personal growth.

The biggest barrier for most beginners isn't flexibility.

It's not strength.

It's not whether they can do the postures.

It's walking into a room full of people and not knowing what to expect.

We see it all the time.

People worry they'll get in the way. They worry everyone else will know what they're doing. They worry they'll stand out.

Then they come.

And almost always discover something very different from what they imagined.

One student recently told us she couldn't believe how meditative it felt.

Another arrived feeling so nervous she was shaking. She left feeling relieved, confident and excited to come back.

Everyone has a first Mysore story.

This was theirs.

What's yours?

Meet Claire ☀️

Claire leads our Beginner Fundamentals classes at AYE.

Outside the shala, she works as a therapist supporting children and teenagers who have experienced trauma or who are neurodiverse. She's also a mother of two and loves learning alongside her children through home education.

Burnout is what first brought Claire to practice many years ago. Not because yoga fixed everything, but because it offered something she needed: space, breath, structure and a way to reconnect with herself.

Today, she brings that same kindness, curiosity and care into her teaching.

Starting something new takes courage. Claire will be there to meet that courage with support every step of the way.

We didn’t create this retreat to fill every hour of the day.

We created it for people who need a genuine reset.

Time to focus on practice. Good food. Quiet mornings. Warm company. Space to think again.

6 Weeks to go and a couple of spaces left 🌿
