Theatretrain Hitchin

Theatretrain Hitchin Empowering kids to grow in confidence and perform on professional stages for over 30 years

Theatretrain provides Professional Training in the Performing Arts for young people aged 4 - 18. Working as a team our weekly drama, dance and singing classes are fun, build confidence and develop the imagination. As the company that loves to perform we provide many opportunities for ALL our pupils to perform in our local, regional and West End shows. Our classes of acting, singing and dancing are taught in age groups 6-9, 9-12 and 13-18. Our curriculum provides a step by step understanding of the performing arts and previous experience isn't necessary. We have high expectations of our pupils and we ask for energy, enthusiasm and commitment in the work. Our teachers are experienced professionals chosen for their experience and enthusiasm.

One of the nicest compliments we receive isn't about the shows or the performances.

It's when a parent says,
"It just feels so welcoming here."

That always makes me smile.

Because creating that feeling doesn't happen by accident.

It's the teachers greeting children by name.

The Welcome Ambassadors looking after someone who's new.

The older students saying hello to the younger ones.

The conversations with parents at the door.

All of those little moments add up to something much bigger.

I think every child deserves to walk into a place where they feel noticed, supported and happy to be themselves.

That's the atmosphere we've worked hard to create at Theatretrain, and it's something I'm incredibly proud of.

When students tell us they've grown in confidence and made great friends, that's every bit as exciting as hearing about the performances they've been part of.

Of course we're proud of the shows.

But what makes us smile most is knowing children have found somewhere they feel they belong.

Somewhere they can be themselves.
Somewhere they look forward to coming each week.

Thank you, Edward, for such a lovely review. We're so pleased Theatretrain has been part of your journey.

It's something parents say to me from time to time.

You look into the room and see children who know exactly where to stand, who put their hands up confidently and seem completely at home.

It's easy to wonder if your child will ever feel like that.

What you don't see is where those confident children started.

Many of them walked through our doors feeling just as unsure.

Some stayed close to the teacher.
Some watched before joining in.
Some hardly spoke at all.

The difference isn't that they've just had more Saturdays.

I've learnt that confidence isn't something children suddenly wake up with one morning.

It grows quietly.
One new friendship.
One routine they remember.
One moment where they think, "I can do this."
Then another.
And another.

If your child isn't as confident as someone who's been coming for years, that's okay.

Don't compare where they're starting with someone else's journey.

Instead, compare them with the child who walked through the door on their very first day.
That's the comparison that really matters.

How do I get my child off their screen?

It's a question I hear from parents all the time.

But I think there's a more useful question underneath it.

What would they happily put their screen down for?

Because children rarely give something up willingly unless they're gaining something else in return.

A friend.

A hobby.

A challenge.

A place they genuinely enjoy being.

I've written a new article about why screen time is often a symptom rather than the real problem, and why finding something that excites your child can make a bigger difference than another argument about turning a device off.

Read it here: https://theatretrain.co.uk/why-telling-children-to-put-their-screens-away-isnt-usually-enough

Today's the day!
After a summer of recharging, we're back!

In a little while, our rooms will be full of music, laughter and excited chatter once again.

Some children will be walking through the doors like they've never been away.
Others will be joining us for the very first time, with a few butterflies in their tummy.
Both are completely normal.

For me, the start of a new term is knowing that every child is beginning a new chapter.
New friendships will be made.
Confidence will grow.

Whether you're returning or joining us for the first time, we're so looking forward to seeing you.
Here's to another fantastic term together. โœจ

Tomorrow we'll open the doors and start another Theatretrain year.

There'll be excitement.
There'll be nerves.
There'll be children who can't wait to get started.
And there will almost certainly be at least one parent standing in reception looking far more nervous than their child.

We've seen it before.

We'll probably see it again tomorrow.

And by the end of the morning, most of those nerves will have disappeared.

Behind the scenes, the teachers and I are getting ready too.

Music is being checked.

Registers are being printed.

Lesson plans are being finalised.

And I'm absolutely convinced I've forgotten something important.
I haven't.
Probably.

September is always fascinating.

Children walk back through the doors looking exactly the same and completely different at the same time.

A little taller.
A little older.
Usually carrying a brand-new water bottle.
Sometimes a brand-new hairstyle.

And somehow the children who felt brand new last year suddenly look like veterans.
๐ŸŽญ 3 days to go.
