Islay, Scotland. Last summer.

Whisky in the evening, surf at sunrise, a wild camp somewhere in between with Ollie Warren and not much of a plan beyond that.

This is the bit nobody posts — the drive there, the spot you find by accident, the morning you didn’t set an alarm for.

The van’s done a lot of miles since. This is still one is unforgettable.

A decade ago someone put pen to paper, wrote the word Driift, and started asking a question that still doesn’t have a clean answer.

What is Driift?

What followed was a chapter of building. A community, an indoor skate ramp, a foundation, a skatepark, handmade skateboards, art festivals, fighters, skaters and artists. Following gut instinct. Doing the things that spoke loudest. Backing the people and projects that felt right.

Some of it worked. Some of it didn’t.

Ten years teaches you things about yourself and others that nothing else can. What fills you up. What doesn’t. What’s true. That kind of clarity is worth every bit of the journey to get there.

This chapter is now done.

Chapter Two takes Driift back closer to where it started. And maybe closer to what it always was trying to be.

See the sunrise. Watch the sunset from somewhere it has no right to be. Oceans, mountains, forests. Log cabins and log fires with open conversation. Waking up in a hammock somewhere wild. Bikes and boards. Family and close friends. Adventure and stillness in equal measure.

The van is ready. The ramp has evolved.

Less noise. Less baggage. More road.

Ten years asking people what Driift is. Everyone has a different answer. Skaters, fighters, artists, builders, fathers — all of them right, none of them the same.

Maybe that’s always been the point. Maybe Driift was never meant to be one thing. Maybe it’s just the feeling you get when you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

For me it’s now as clear as it’s ever been.

Driift is freedom.
