MGH Sports Horses is based at Lucy Wiegersma's Warren Farm in Devon UK. The prefix 'MGH' is an abbreviation of Mullenaglogh, Padraig McCarthy's townsland home in Ireland. Together we breed, produce, and sell quality event horses and showjumpers, most of which are Irish Sport Horses. Our clients range from professional eventers and showjumpers to keen amatuers of all ages.

🎙 NEW EPISODE - BIG TALK FOR BREEDERS 🎙

A Rio Olympian, double silver medallist at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon and in the past few days, Padraig McCarthy has been named on the Team Ireland eventing squad for the World Championships in Aachen. What is even more impressive is that his mount for Aachen is a home-bred, MGH Zabaione (Zavall VDL x Acobat II).

This conversation takes us through Padraig's early influences growing up in Tipperary, opportunities to learn from international greats in his younger years, juggling horses while completing a PhD, the switch to eventing and what traits he looks for when sourcing or breeding young event horses for MGH Sport Horse Stud.

While I'm conscious that followers of this podcast series have been left waiting for a new episode for quite some time, due to a number of other projects, I know that you will thoroughly enjoy this conversation with Padraig McCarthy.

Spring is a great time on a stud farm. Really pleased with our first foal of 2026. A filly by Ansingh de Lis Z out of a young Conthargos x Chacco Blue dam. Grandam Skara Glen's Sienna was a successful 5* GP jumper with Paul O'Shea.

We are delighted for Jesse Campbell and all the connections of this super horse! Speedwell started life as MGH Cascavelle (Cobra x Warrenstown Me 2), before being sold as a 3yo. Padraig McCarthy will compete his 5yo brother MGH Eagle Rock at Badminton in the BYEH class next week.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable person to join our team. We are a busy stud and competition stable based in Devon, UK. MGH Sport Horse Stud is home of 5* Irish eventer Padraig McCarthy and his family, and has been a launching pad for many top event riders throughout the years. This could be a long or short-term position, depending on the person and circumstances.

Warren Farm has excellent facilities, including indoor school, cross country field, horse walker and water treadmill with good accommodation available on site. Possibility to bring your own horse and train with Padraig and Lucy.

Although this is primarily a home-based position, there will be the opportunity to assist at some events and shows. All normal yard duties, lunging and prepping for competition, handling of breeding and young stock and some riding - depending on experience and ability.

Applicants must bring a positive attitude and a good work ethic; we are happy to nurture and educate as we go.
