So proud of my neighbour - she came out for the first time on a paddleboard this morning. After the initial nerves she was even doing pilates! 🧘‍♀️

How often do we stop ourselves trying something new because we might not be good at it?

What if we gave ourselves permission to be beginners? To make a mess? To get it wrong? To learn through doing?

This little bluebell painting is teaching me something I spend a lot of time encouraging in my Pilates classes…

Practice, not perfection.

I don’t consider myself artistic. I don’t know the rules. I often don’t know what I’m doing. Sometimes I put the paint in the wrong place, make colours too dark, or create something that looks nothing like I imagined.

But there’s something wonderfully freeing about that.

When you don’t know the rules, you’re not trying to be perfect. You’re just playing. Experimenting. Learning as you go.

Today I discovered that if I made an area too dark, adding a little white paint created a beautiful softness and depth. A mistake became part of the picture.

Whether it’s painting, Pilates, gardening, dancing, writing or anything else, there is so much joy in creating simply for the sake of creating.

No pressure.
No perfection.
Just curiosity, practice and play.

Just simply having a go and enjoying the process is enough. No phone. No deadline. Just play.

Head to Hobbycraft or Amazon and grab a watercolour book for beginners, a small selection of watercolour paints and brushes and give it a go!

If you want a REALLY beginner tutorial from a non artist let me know!

This might be the missing piece of your menopause health and ageing well journey…

Creating moments of peace.

Finding ways to calm our nervous system is so important for hormone health, stress resilience, and overall wellbeing as we age and navigate menopause. Yet many of us struggle to slow down. We don’t know what to do with ourselves when we stop, or we feel guilty if we’re not being productive.

That’s what I love about discovering watercolours.

It’s calming, mindful, creative, and surprisingly easy to get started. My mum introduced me to step-by-step watercolour books that guide you through creating beautiful paintings, even if you don’t think you have an artistic bone in your body.

Not only does it help create a sense of calm, but learning new skills and being creative is fantastic for brain health too.

I’ve genuinely surprised myself with what I’ve been able to create, and I’ve loved having something that helps me switch off from the constant doing and simply enjoy the process.

If you’ve been looking for a way to unwind, regulate your nervous system, and do something just for you, perhaps it’s time to pick up a paintbrush.

Give it a go and let me know what you create. I’d love to see your masterpieces—I promise you’ll surprise yourself. 🎨✨

💡 You’ll find the book and paints at hobbycraft or Amazon. I recommend the Winsor & Newton paints and brushes and I love the Brushstrokes In Bloom, A Beginners Guide to Watercolour Flowers. 🌷

Can you identify all 7 Pilates moves from the hot tub footage? Bonus points if you get them all right. Mum was on camera duty for this one 😂

As Ricky Gervais said, dogs are “beautiful, soulful creatures” that give you unconditional love. Building a working partnership with a dog is such a privilege, and having them in your life is truly special. Heading out into nature to train is my ultimate relaxation time (unless George is in d%*khead mode and then it’s a test of my patience!). Being away has helped me enjoy training without the pressure of rushing around—it’s the loveliest way to unwind. Huge shoutout to my Dad for helping out too!
