IMPORTANT UPDATE REGARDING TRAINING DURING THE UPCOMING HEATWAVE

We will temporarily be putting our services on hold during the worst of the heat that is coming up.
I know this can be frustrating and we will of course reschedule you ASAP, but we are not prepared to take risks of any sort in 30+ degree heat.

We will see you all again and crack back on once the temperatures are tolerable again.

Stay cool, stay safe and always remember that if you have any suspicion of heat exhaustion/heat stroke, think "wet, then vet".
Immediately soak your dog in cold water, do not cover them in a wet towel but do lie them down on one if you cannot keep them drenched and ring your vets to let them know that you are on your way with a heat injured dog.

Congratulations to beautiful Astro the Sprocker who is officially an offlead dog!
Still some bits to work on, but he is rapidly earning his stripes and proving himself at every turn.
He is blessed with superb owners who put in the work and apply what they're taught with genuine enthusiasm.
He is a rather challenging fellow and is very, very lucky that he landed with them.

Welcome to the start of the rest of your lofe, Astro!

Look at this handsome dude!
Today we have been working on lead manners and settling in public. His owners are awesome and have clearly been putting in the graft. He is a total dude.

*ℙ𝕒𝕣𝕥-𝕋𝕚𝕞𝕖 𝕀𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕟𝕤𝕚𝕧𝕖 𝕋𝕣𝕒𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕟𝕘*
(Kingshill area, Bucks and Witney area, Oxon).

Well worth travelling for (and many do!) our hugely successful, respected and innovative part-time intensive training days are the perfect alternative to sending your dog away for full residential training.
As always, we make sure to include the training you need as well as just training your dog. After all, this training needs to stick forever and be easy to maintain.

This part time training option is superb and long proven for:

✅️ Reactivity*
✅️ Lead pulling
✅️ Truly reliable recall even when faced with big distractions
✅️ Settling calmly in public
✅️ Dangerous predatory behaviours (sheep, or deer chasing/killing for example)
✅️ General manners and obedience
✅️ Neutrality and manners around other dogs and safe socialisation
✅️ Confidence building
✅️ ...And more!

Usually run as a block of 10 x four-hour long sessions that we spread across between 6 and 10 weeks, with length of sessions and frequency being determined by your dogs energy and drive level as well as age (and your convenience).

Reward-centric, realistic approach that meets your dog where they're at and provides clarity, consistency, results that work, as well as the all-important care for their welfare.

Please contact us (preferably via whatsapp as we are usually covered in mud and concentrating on the dogs we are already working with) and we will get back to you as soon as we are back home and dry!

* Please note: Whilst we welcome even explosively reactive dogs with open arms for our ITDs, they are not suitable for truly aggressive dogs that will bite with serious intent to cause damage.
Please contact us if you have a dog like this and we can discuss other, better options.

Old school text message is also fine.

It is hotter than Satan's posing pouch out there..
How are we all doing?
If you have magic tricks for keeping your dogs cool and entertained, feel free to share them here!
(Or magic tricks for keeping humans cool for that matter 😭)

Here we have spent the last couple of days missioning through the frozen duck and turkey necks, meat chunks and frozen slow feeder meals we had prepared. We have also spent the day rotating dogs for "go sniff" opportunities to p*e, play in the paddling pool and get a good old hose drenching
Both air conditioners and all fans are on full whack. My bank account is already crying at the additional expense.

The humans in the house have freezer packs in the freezer ready to be wrapped in a towel and taken to bed tonight.
More frozen slow feeders are being made ready to face yet another SweatFest tomorrow

Today is sponsored by Rupert The Soggy who has decided that the hose pipe is life.

As you will all understand, we will be offering VERY limited services until the temps drop back down a bit.

Here are our nuggets of wisdom on contending with hot days:

• Freeze bowls or kongs etc with wet food, raw food, soaked kibble, smears of peanut butter.
• Raw and frozen bones like lamb ribs or huge knuckle bones (if your dog isn't at risk of smashing its teeth!) always go down well.
• Freeze bottles of water to wrap in towels and place in beds and to place behind fans and point at dogs (and wrap in towels to take to bed with you... Trust me on this one, it makes hot nights so much more bearable for us humans!)
• Keep windows open over night and then shut them and close all curtains as soon as the sun comes up so that your house stands half a chance of staying cooler than it is outside.
• If you have the means for the initial outlay, invest in a proper Air Con. They really do make the world of difference for all beings in your home.
• Remember that if your dog is getting too hot, IMMEDIATE COOLING is the order of the day. Cold water immersion is long proven to be the very best way of cooling them rapidly.

Danger signs of overheating are sticky gums, poor capillary refill time (press gently on the gums with a finger and if the gum stays white before returning to the usual pink for more than a second, start the cooling process straight away). Excessive panting with a wide mouth and a scooped, long tongue, get that dog in cold water.

You're always better laying a hot dog on a very wet towel than covering them with one as a wet towel can rapidly just become a warm blanket.
If they have glassy eyes, are shaking, have erratic movements or have red/purple gums or become unresponsive, DRENCH THEM in cold water and rush them to the vets immediately.

Remember: "WET, THEN VET".

Do not buy into Internet myths about cold water or ice cubes being dangerous. It's all absolute nonsense and that nonsense kills dogs.

It also goes without saying that doing anything approaching exercise when it is excessively hot is asking for trouble.
Avoid the heat of the day and if in doubt, just don't go out at all.

I don't need to remind anyone here that dogs die in hot cars, that hot pavement can burn paws or that playing fetch and running around in hot weather is asking for trouble.

Stay safe, stay cool, stock up on frozen treats for you and your dogs and stay sensible 💪
