In the early hours of Monday 7th September, we sadly lost long time member Carole βCazβ Capstick, who passed away peacefully at Royal Lancaster Infirmary.
Carole was quite simply one of the cornerstones of the Ladiesβ Section here at Bentham Golf Club.
She served as Lady Captain on two occasions, in 2017 and again during the clubβs Centenary Year in 2022, and dedicated an enormous amount of her time to helping both the Ladiesβ Section and the wider club progress. If there was a competition, team match or knockout to play in, you could usually count on Carole being involved β and she was always a stern competitor!
That competitive spirit brought plenty of success over the years. Carole was a three-time Ladiesβ Golfer of the Year, most recently in 2025, as well as a three-time winner across the season-long Rose Bowl and Emily Forster knockout competitions.
However, Caroleβs contribution to Bentham went far beyond what she achieved on the golf course. She was always willing to give her time, knowledge and support to the club and its members. That contribution was recognised only last year when she received the Steve Barlow Award for her outstanding contribution to the club β an award which reflected the respect and affection in which she was held by her fellow members.
On a personal level, Carole was one of the first ladies to show Chris the ropes when he began helping with the administration of the ladiesβ competitions more than seven years ago. From then on, she remained a constant source of help, whether it was something relating to the Ladiesβ Section, competition administration or simply helping out around the club.
Caroleβs passing has come as a tremendous shock to us all. She gave so much to Bentham Golf Club over many years and, more importantly, made many great friends here along the way.
She will be very sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
The funeral service will be held at St Maryβs Church, Ingleton on Friday 18th September at 11am, followed by interment in Ingleton Cemetery. Refreshments will be served at Ingleton Community Centre following the service.
