🏆WE’RE FINALISTS!🏆

We’re delighted to share that Heywood Cricket Club has made the final three for Club/Group of the Year at the 2026 Rochdale Borough Active Awards!💙🏏

The award recognises a community club or group for its success, community engagement and overall impact across the borough over the past 12 months.

For us, this recognition is about far more than what happens on the cricket field.

Heywood Cricket Club is powered by an incredible group of players, coaches, volunteers, members, sponsors, parents and supporters who give their time and energy to make Crimble a place for the whole community.

From our senior and junior cricket, through to community events, charity fundraising and simply providing a place where people can come together – there is a huge amount that goes on behind the scenes throughout the year.

So, to be named among the final three clubs/groups across Rochdale Borough is something we can all be incredibly proud of.

The Rochdale Borough Active Awards celebrate those making a difference through sport, physical activity and helping local communities to be active.

🌍🏏 CAN YOU HELP? – OVERSEAS PLAYER ACCOMMODATION 2027

As we look ahead to the 2027 season, Heywood Cricket Club is actively exploring options to recruit an overseas player to join us at Crimble.

A key part of making this possible is finding suitable local accommodation from early April through to mid-September 2027.

We’d love to hear from any landlords, homeowners, members or supporters with a spare room who may be able to help.

Whether it’s a spare room, rental property, self-contained accommodation or another potential option, we’re happy to consider anything that could work.

The accommodation would be required for approximately 5½ months, from early April until the middle of September.

If you think you may be able to help, or know somebody who could, please speak to Jamie McCulloch ASAP.

Even if you can’t help directly, please share this post – finding the right accommodation could play a big part in our plans for 2027. 💚🏏

One of those days that means a little bit more than just the cricket.

The annual Lemons v Eggers charity cricket match returns as we come together to remember Tommy Hardman, Trevor ‘Egger’ Jones and the other friends and loved ones we’ve sadly lost along the way.

❤️ Most importantly, the day will be raising money for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and supporting the fantastic work they do.

Expect plenty of questionable cricket, even more questionable decisions, a few old rivalries renewed and, most importantly, a brilliant afternoon spent with good people for a great cause.

It’s Bank Holiday Sunday, so get yourself down to Crimble, enjoy the cricket, have a drink and help us raise as much as we can for CRY.

🏏 Weekend Round-Up 🏏

The 1st XI returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion with a 9-wicket victory over Astley & Tyldesley. Captain Will Purser returned to the side and led from the front, taking 5-27 including a hat-trick as the visitors were dismissed for just 114. Heywood made light work of the chase, getting home inside 25 overs for the loss of one wicket, with Ed Dickinson finishing unbeaten on 53. 👏

A disappointing afternoon for the 2nd XI away at Darcy Lever. Will Taylor took an excellent 6-36 as the hosts were bowled out for 125, but Heywood's reply never recovered from a disastrous start at 8-6 and then 17-8. Henry McDermott (26*) and Umer Khan (22) restored some pride before Heywood were eventually dismissed for 71.

A much-changed 3rd XI travelled to Edgworth on Sunday, with several players unavailable as our U15s and U18s competed in their cup finals. Tom Pagett took 4-29 as Edgworth were dismissed for 175, but Heywood struggled in reply, with skipper Joe O'Neill (26) the only player to reach double figures in a total of 75.

🔥 Heywood Phoenix continued their excellent form with another fantastic victory — this time a 1-run thriller against Stand! Ellie Clarkson (23) and Jill Thomas-Johnson (29) made important contributions with the bat as the Phoenix secured another brilliant win.

Plenty of highs and lows across the weekend — but congratulations to Will on the hat-trick and to the Phoenix on another superb result! 💚🏏

🏆🏆 DOUBLE CUP GLORY FOR HEYWOOD’S JUNIORS! 🏆🏆

What a Sunday at Crimble as both our U15s and U18s lifted GMCL silverware – incredibly winning both finals without losing a single wicket! 💚

🏏 U15s – GMCL Summer Cup Winners

The U15s recorded a fantastic 10-wicket victory over Roe Green in their 100-ball final.

Roe Green posted 95, with Archie Johnson taking 3-13 from his 20 balls and Henry McDermott claiming 2 wickets.

In reply, openers Jake Jacob and Oli Staley timed the chase perfectly. Playing on a centre wicket, running hard and rotating the strike was key. Jacob retired on 40 and Staley finished unbeaten on 30 as Heywood got home with 4 balls to spare, despite hitting just four boundaries!

⭐ Player of the Match: Archie Johnson

🏏 U18s – Cup Winners

Five of the U15s then had a quick turnaround to go again as the U18s faced Greenfield.

Another superb bowling and fielding display saw Greenfield dismissed for 94. Ed Dickinson and Chris Fern took 3 wickets each, with Henry McDermott taking 2. Skipper Ollie Rawlinson also produced a spectacular one-handed catch in the outfield!

Heywood cruised home with 34 balls remaining, Ed Dickinson retiring on 50 and Sam Staley finishing 33 not out.

⭐ Player of the Match: Ed Dickinson

Two finals. Two trophies. Not a single wicket lost. 🏆🏆

Every player contributed and should be extremely proud. It was also brilliant to see a healthy Crimble crowd supporting the teams throughout the day.

There’s some serious young talent coming through at Heywood and exciting years ahead. Most importantly, these players will continue to get opportunities in senior cricket at Crimble.
