This morning we welcomed AJX to Hetton Academy for game 18, with Max D leading the team out as this week’s captain after being awarded the arm band in training this week.

Determined to turn a run of draws into a win this morning, Lazio were focused with the task at hand for today’s game. Lazio were strong on the ball from the off and had some lovely passages of play when on the ball and worked hard when off to win it back. As a result the lads were able to take the lead after a well placed pass from Joshua found Max D who turned and found the back of the net through the keepers legs. Max D then almost had a second after winning a penalty, only for the keeper to make a great save and spurn his efforts- keeping it at 1-0 at HT.

At half time the lads were reminded to stick together, be aware of their positions and to utilise the wingers to maximise the space. We were able to do just that another brilliant pass from Joshua which led to a second goal. From then, the lads did exactly as asked at half time with a brilliant team effort. From the back of the pitch to the front, the lads held their lead and kept pushing for more and created some great chances throughout. We did concede in the last 10 mins and the lads battled hard to keep their lead with some solid defending to secure the win!

Harry’s confidence in goal has been great to see in recent weeks and today solidified some strong recent performances. Great distribution, confident getting down to the ball and some key saves too! Well done Hazza 🙌🏻

Opposition Player of the Match- Oscar ⭐️
Oscar had an excellent display in defence this morning. He was determined to win back the ball, disrupting play and keeping us out of trouble when it came our way and making some brilliant forward runs at the right time too! Well done Oscar 👏🏻

Lazio traveled to Seaham to play Roseberry Park this morning in game 17 of the league campaign. The boys were expecting a competitive game, and Joshua led the team out as captain after picking the arm band up in training this week.

It was a game of two halves this morning, with Lazio slow out the starting blocks and Roseberry capitalising to take a 2-0 lead in the first half. At half time the boys were reminded to increase their positivity, improve their communication and work harder to win the second ball.

The second half started much more positively and we saw Lazio with increased possession. This saw them driving forward and into the box, winning a penalty which was calmly converted by Luca who has been an excellent addition to the team. Defensive play worked well and Harry made some great saves to keep us in it and push the team forward with some solid distribution too. The connection and link up was also much better in the second half, and this gave us plenty of opportunity to get level. We did just that when a cross from Luca landed to Ethan whose hard work was rewarded with a goal. With 15 minutes still to play, the competitive game continued with opportunities for both teams to try and secure the win. The clock ran down and Lazio worked hard to protect the scoreline and push ahead. Despite some strong efforts, neither team was able to pinch it and a draw was how the game closed- another point on the board for Lazio ⭐️

Ethan was excellent on the left wing this morning, determined in his efforts to work both sides of the ball, tracking his man and pushing us forward at the right time. Some great decision making and forward running made him dangerous in the attack and he was rewarded with a well earned goal for his efforts! Well done Ethan!

Coaches Player of the Match: Joshua ⭐️
Joshua delivered a true captains performance this morning with both his positivity and his determination. He showed his skill across 3 positions, covering the wing, midfield and defence today- he led the way with his focus and his approach to the game- great work Joshua!

We also have to say a great big thank you to our Ref Andy today- by far one of the best referees we have had all season, he knew every players name, was encouraging and clear with the players and communication to everyone on the pitch was brilliant! Thank you ⚽️

Another gorgeous morning for football and this week Lazio travelled to Ford Hub for an early KO to face Silksworth Blues, with Max T as this weeks captain.

Lazio were up for it this morning and the first half saw them playing some fantastic football which created chance after chance, particularly in the last 10 minutes of the half. We had some great opportunities and we maintained a great intensity throughout with periods of brilliant link up play which was lovely to watch. Harry made some good saves to keep a first half clean sheet but despite the efforts, we weren’t able to capitalise in front of goal and went into half time at 0-0.

In the second half we came out the blocks quickly and won a corner. Max D sent in a lovely ball which found Jack at the back post who headed home a great goal which was perfectly timed. Work in midfield between Seth, Max T and Ethan gave opportunity for Jakey to get forward and lead the press. Defensively the lads were fantastic today and Joseph, Jack and Joshua made it difficult for the opposition to break through. They did find a response to make it 1-1 and the desire from both teams saw some end to end football in the final stages, but a draw was how it would end in what was a fantastic, competitive game. Well done lads!

Joshua stepped into defence today and did brilliantly to cover the space and win back the ball. He made some key interceptions and was composed in his decision making to drive us out of trouble. Well done Joshua!

Opposition Player of the Match: Jack and Joseph ⭐️⭐️
A double award from the opposition today who said their defensive displays made it difficult for them to break through. Some magnificent work from the pair of them gave us a goal and some magnificent blocks (including a diving header!)- great work Jack and Joe!

Special mention- we have to also give a special mention to Harry in goal, confident in getting down to the ball, some fantastic distribution and a top notch save in the first half- well done Hazzle!

A beautiful morning for football as we welcomed N.E Elite to Hetton Academy, with Joseph leading the team out as this weeks captain.

It’s always a great game when these teams meet and this morning was no different. The game started well but it was NE Elite who broke the deadlock first with a shot outside the box. They then found another after a mismanaged corner but the lads were straight back to it after some slight positional changes gave us the opportunity to get back in the game. Some tidy football from Ethan set birthday boy Max D off down the wing, beating the defenders, and the GK, to get us a goal back before half time.

At half time the lads were reminded to enjoy having the football and to maintain their intensity in the second half. Strong defensive work from Joseph, Oscar, Jack and Joshua, coupled with some great decisions from Harry in goal, kept out any threats and linked up the play with Ethan, Seth, Max T, Jakey and Max D working hard to win the ball back and drive forward. We found an equaliser following a free kick for handball outside the box- Max T stepped forward and scored a lovely goal.

Despite chances to get us further ahead, we couldn’t take them today and the game finished in a well earned draw in what was a well matched, competitive game of football. Well done Lazio!

Coaches player of the match: Joshua ⭐️
Joshua picked up this weeks coaches player of the match after another versatile display saw him covering multiple midfield and defensive roles. Joshua was strong on the ball and read the game well throughout- well done Joshua!

Opposition player of the match- Oscar ⭐️
Oscar’s positional awareness and disruptive play stood out today. He was calm and collected with his decision making, winning back the ball and playing forward passes to push us on- well done Oscar!

Lazio headed to Washington Hub tonight in a rearranged league game with our friends from Seaham Roseberry Park. It’s always a great game every time our sides meet and tonight was no different, with Max T leading the way as captain.

Lazio were a little nervy at the start and took a little time to settle into the game, Roseberry were able to take advantage of this and scored the first goal of the game. The lads were quick to get back into after a lovely period of passing play landed with Ethan who slotted in Joshua to find the equaliser. In some end to end football, Rosberry found a second with a great strike outside the box. The final 10 minutes of the first half saw some brilliant Lazio football which kept the opposition pinned back. We were unlucky not to find more goals after hitting the cross bar twice, the post once and even had a penalty saved!

At half time, the lads were reminded to maximise the space and increase the fluidity of their passing and they did just that with another effort lifting just over the cross bar in the opening few minutes. Both teams met each other well throughout the game but Roseberry found a third goal and we replied with a second after an attempt from Max T was followed in by Ethan who was quick off the mark to get us back into the game. The link up play and determination from the boys saw them win back the ball when out of possession and drive us forward throughout. We kept on ramping up the attack and won an indirect free kick in the box which was initially scored but then retaken to be blocked the second time to spurr us again! Roseberry found a fourth goal and despite our efforts we couldn’t reply and the game ended in a 4-2 defeat.

It’s not often we come away from a loss feeling happy, however, tonight the game could have absolutely gone either way and with the bare 9 available, we were incredibly proud of the lads who were magnificent with their effort to keep playing strong football until the final whistle- well done Lazio!

Joshua played as a striker tonight and his work rate on and off the ball to lead the press and drive us forward was fantastic. It saw him rewarded with a great goal and many other efforts which on another night would have added to his tally comfortably- well done Joshua!

Opposition Player of the Match: Max T ⭐️
Yet another opposition player of the match award for Max T who continues to standout for his performances on the wing. His attacking efforts on the ball were excellent and he worked hard to track back and cover defensively when required. Well done Max!

It was a collective team effort tonight and the lads all did so well in what was a great, competitive game!
