Hetton Hawks CC The club is for children and young people up to the age of 23. As a “junior development club”, our aim is to provide high quality coaching for our riders

Hetton Hawks is a British Cycling ‘Go Ride’ Club. Clubs under the Go Ride scheme agree to make sure that the riders are trained by qualified coaches and supported by properly trained officials. The club is delighted to have the regular support of over 10 British Cycling qualified coaches. Hetton Hawks has generous support from parents and helpers, it is these iindividuals who are the officials of

the club and meet once a month to plan the activities of the club . The diary section lists the range of activities that we have planned over the coming weeks. If you would like to get a feel for the events, have a look at the Image Gallery. There you will find lots of photograph albums with pictures of riders at the numerous events in which Hetton Hawks riders have participated. The club takes great pride in being a friendly environment and is very welcoming of riders who are keen to get involved in cycling .. at any level. The main focus of the club is to provide coaching to young riders to improve their confidence on a bike and develop bike handling skills. With this grounding riders are then provided with additional skills to enable them to participate in club, regional and national races. Hetton Hawks operates a membership scheme and this has proven to be very successful in recent years. In order to deliver the best in coaching to our members we ensure that we maintain a safe and manageable ratio of coaches to members. As a result, membership is by application and currently we have a waiting list of interested potential members. If you are interested in joining, send an email through to the membership secretary via the contacts page. We will then be in touch with information on how to get involved with the club and see at first hand the activities that we undertake.

NEYL RD3 HETTON HAWKS - CANCELLED

It is with huge regret that we have to cancel this Sunday’s NEYL round at Hetton.

Unfortunately British Cycling are unable to provide the chief commissaire which means our agreement with Sunderland Council, and our public liability insurance are not valid for the event.

Commissaires were in place and we have only found out today that this is no longer the case. We have tried to get a chief commissaire from the region and also from other regions but this has not proved possible.

As we are sure you all appreciate, a significant proportion of the work involved in hosting a race takes place before the event, communications with the council and park alone have been going on for months and we had people organised to provide medical cover, timing, marshals and the huge range other roles needed.

We are all gutted to have to cancel, and we hate to take away an opportunity for our youth riders to come out and race, but this has been entirely out of our control.

Unfortunately the event will not be rescheduled.

Refunds for entries will be automatically issued over the weekend via BC.

Thanks for your understanding. Have fun on your bikes in one way or another this weekend!

MTB Talent Development Centre

Great news - save the date 📅!!

Hetton Hawks Cycling Club XC Mtb Talent Development Centre sessions are returning to Hamsterley Forest starting Thursday 30 April and will run every Thursday (except for May school holidays) until 9 July.

The sessions are open to all British Cycling members from any club aged u12 riders and upwards. Any strong u10s who wish attend will need to be assessed first as these sessions can be very physical so please speak to a Hawks mountain bike coach before entering.

The sessions will run from 7pm - 8.30pm and will cost £6 each. Watch the British Cycling website on how to enter and further details. I will share the links to enter once live on BC website.

Entries are now LIVE for Round 1 of the North East Youth League presented by Manilla Cycling — and we can’t wait to welcome riders from across the region for another fantastic evening of youth racing!

The North East Youth League has become one of the best development race series in the country, giving young riders the chance to experience competitive racing in a fun, supportive and professionally run environment. Whether you’re racing for the first time or chasing podiums, this series is all about developing skills, confidence and a love for racing.

We’re excited to kick off another brilliant season and see the next generation of North East riders take to the circuit.
