🏅 Medal Monday: 9h 25m of High-Performance Ex*****on
A massive congratulations to Ride Harder coached athlete, Ash, for an absolutely clinical performance at the Mallorca 312 this past weekend!
Ash crossed the line in an incredible 9h 25min, securing 49th place overall. What makes this achievement even more impressive? It was his very first attempt at the full 312km distance.
To put the scale of this ride into perspective: while 8,000 riders took the start across all distances, only around 3,000 athletes tackled the full loop. Coming 49th in a field that deep is a testament to what happens when talent meets a structured plan.
While I cannot take credit for the immense dedication and hard work Ash put into his training blocks, going into an event of this magnitude fully prepped was a massive advantage. We ensured he knew exactly what to expect:
- Pacing the 5,050m of climbing: Avoiding the common mistake of “burning matches” too early on the Coll de Femenia and Puig Major.
- Technical Confidence: Understanding the technical descents and how to navigate the coastal roads efficiently.
- Strategy: Executing a precise fuelling and hydration plan to ensure the legs were still there for the final flat 100km.
I was out there on the course with him, though I’ll admit my own finish time was a fair bit more “scenic” and significantly slower than his! 😅
Ash brought the engine; we provided the tactical roadmap to ensure that power was used exactly where it mattered.
Looking to tackle the 312 next year? Success in an event like this isn’t just about how hard you can pedal; it’s about how smart you can ride. If you’re looking to complete the distance or smash a personal best, the work starts with understanding the demands of the course.
