π Parents β this is the first acceleration drill we teach.
If your child canβt get into the right positions, they wonβt accelerate as efficiently as they could.
Thatβs why, before we sprint fast, we teach athletes how to create the shapes needed for acceleration.
One of the first drills we use is a wall drill.
The purpose?
To teach athletes how to project their hips forward and create the body position needed for powerful acceleration.
The cues we use are:
β
Body in a straight line at roughly 45 degrees (the βget setβ position)
β
Push the hips back by bending at the knees and ankles
β
Let the arms become long as the hips move back
β
Throw the hips and head forward so the head moves over the hands
Mastering these positions helps young athletes develop the mechanics needed for faster acceleration, better first steps and improved sprint performance.
