CLIENT SPOTLIGHT
Meet Jesse -
Jesse has been with me over a year now. He had never boxed before and wanted to learn and eventually be able to spar but doesn't want to fight
We started off 1on1 and then added a small joint session, so twice a week
Then later we dropped the 1on1 completely and now Jesse does one small group and one session with
Jesse has moved on loads since doing the joint sessions and has now sparred pretty much all my guys at some point
It isn't hard sparring, it's light to medium tech sparring, working on certain things and learning. There is absolutely zero benefit in Jesse hard sparring if he isn't going to fight
Jesse has really surprised me, as he's had a few tough spars with where he was definitely out of his depth, but he didn't moan once and just got on with it, and ever since then I have seen a change in him
He just doesn't care anymore, which is 100% the right attitude. He just gets on with it, and if the person he is sparring is better (more experienced) than him, then so be it. He doesn't get the hump, he treats it for what it is
That's the right attitude when sparring. If the other person is better, guess what, you come off worse. But as long as you know that going into it, it shouldn't bother you. You're not competing against your sparring partner, you're simply trying to improve yourself. And that's exactly what Jesse does
Your sparring partner isn't an opponent, he's your "partner". The clue is in the name. You're there to bring each other on. This isn't pro boxing where being ultra competitive matters. This is a few guys doing a hobby once or twice a week, nothing more
Great work Jesse, as with everyone, you're a pleasure to work with π€π
