💬 Hear from one of our Bounce Back Members – PLJ (member since October 2024)

What was your biggest struggle before starting and how has it changed? 🙌

Previously I had been trying to exercise to keep active into old age but in 2024 I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD), which gave me a new impetus. People with PD are advised to do plenty of exercise to try to delay the progress of degeneration of the brain.

How has the online programme benefited you? 💻

Nowadays I do one of Beth’s classes most days, using the library of classes on her website. These are great because there is a variety of types and length of class to choose from, so if it’s very hot weather or I’m short of energy or time I can choose a shorter class. It’s so convenient, no driving to park at a gym, I just set up my iPad on the kitchen worktop and get going at a time that suits me. I keep an exercise/symptom diary as that helps me to maintain variety and motivation. Fortunately, my PD symptoms are practically nil now and I feel fit and well, which I think must be largely due to my exercise programme.

What is your favourite class and why? ❤️

I like the challenge of the Build and Balance programme, and the fun of the cardio class with Tabata.

What would you say to someone who is thinking of joining?
👥

If anyone is thinking of joining, I’d say give it a go, the first week is free anyway so you can explore the website and try things out and see if it’s for you. It’s been a game changer for me.

Low energy today? 🔋

When you’re living with a long-term health condition, your energy levels can change from day to day.

That doesn’t mean you have to skip exercise completely. Instead, adapt it to how you’re feeling.

A shorter session, fewer repetitions, seated exercises or some gentle movement can all count. 💙

👉 Save this for your next low-energy day.

One of the most rewarding parts of my work is seeing the confidence, strength and independence that can grow when people find the right kind of support.

Maria has been part of our community since 2020 and kindly shared her experience of the online programme — from the challenges she faced before starting, to how exercise has helped her feel stronger.

Living with a long-term health condition can bring many challenges, but the right exercise, delivered in the right way, can help you take back control and focus on what you can do. 💪

A huge thank you to Maria for sharing her story. I hope it inspires someone else who might be thinking about starting their own exercise journey.

💙 If you’re living with Parkinson’s, MS, cancer or another long-term health condition and would like to find out more about Bounce Back Exercise, send me a message or visit the link in my bio.

Feeling exhausted? Exercise might be the last thing you want to do… but here’s why it can actually help.

Fatigue can make exercise feel like the last thing you want to do... but the right type of movement can actually help boost your energy over time. 💙

The key is to start small. Even 5–10 minutes of gentle, manageable exercise can make a real difference and help build your strength and stamina.

That’s why we’ve created a library of 5–15 minute classes, designed specifically for people managing fatigue.

Can exercise improve bone mineral density? 🦴💪

The answer is yes—the right type of exercise can help maintain and even improve bone mineral density.

Bones respond to the forces placed upon them. Weight-bearing and resistance (strength) exercises stimulate bone-building cells, helping to keep your bones strong. 💪

This is especially important if you’re living with cancer, Parkinson’s, MS, or osteoporosis, where bone health may be affected by the condition itself, treatment, or reduced activity.

The key is choosing the right exercises and progressing them safely.

One of the best things about our exercise classes isn’t just the exercise… it’s the community. 💙

Everyone is working towards their own goals, but the shared experience of living with Parkinson’s or another long term health condition creates a unique bond.

Whether you join us online or in person for classes like our exercise and table tennis, Bounce Back Exercise is a place where you can connect with others who understand. It’s somewhere to share experiences, ask questions, exchange tips on managing symptoms, celebrate progress, and support one another through the ups and downs.

If you’re looking for a welcoming community where you can exercise safely, have fun and meet others living with Parkinson’s, we’d love to welcome you. 💙
