We use a wide variety of activities to create unforgettable outdoor adventures that promote resilience and self-confidence.

Established in 1964, we have been a charity since 2019. Longtown Outdoor Learning Centre has been operating since 1964. The centre offers accommodation, camping and challenging outdoor adventure activities for all ages and abilities in and around the Brecon Beacons National Park. Our multi-activity outdoor education courses aim to promote self-confidence, consideration for others, and caring for

the environment. This comes from enjoying the successes achieved through personal endeavour and working together, in wild and beautiful landscapes.

We’d like to give a huge shout-out to Riley, one of our amazing Outdoor Learning Tutors, for creating these fantastic signs for our Base Camp. Riley has hand-painted 12 unique signs – one for each tent – each featuring a bird species that can be spotted in the UK. We absolutely love them and think they add something really special to Base Camp!

We are a busy outdoor residential centre in Longtown known for its warm, friendly atmosphere and clean, welcoming facilities.

We are looking for a part-time housekeeping assistant / cleaner to join our team.

The Role:

· Ensuring high standards of cleanliness throughout our guest accommodation and public spaces.

· Cleaning bedrooms, toilets, showers and communal areas.

· Assisting with laundry and linen management.

Hours:

· Approximately 10 hours per week

· Monday and Friday mornings

· This could be a term time only contract if preferred

What we are looking for:

· A strong attention to detail

· A positive, can-do attitude

· Reliable and able to work independently

· Previous experience is helpful but not essential

Pay: £13.45 an hour

Our bell tents are officially up and ready for the summer season!

A huge shoutout to our amazing team who worked tirelessly to get everything set up—on the hottest day of the year so far!

We can’t wait to welcome our campers for a stay full of fun, challenge, and adventure. From building confidence to developing resilience, it’s going to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

Looking for something fun and exciting for your child to do this May half-term? Our holiday activity days for 8 to 14-year-olds are packed with adventure and unforgettable experiences - all set in the stunning surroundings of the Black Mountains and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and on our beautiful 16 acre site.

We have activity days taking place on Tuesday 26th May and Wednesday 27th May. Tuesday will be an action-packed onsite day where children can challenge themselves on the climbing wall before an afternoon of paddleboarding on our onsite pool. Wednesday we will head offsite for a day of canoeing.

Each day is an opportunity for children to have fun, unplug from screens, build confidence and create lasting memories - all while being guided by qualified, experienced instructors.

The cost is £45 per day. Pick-up and drop-off is from our base in Longtown, Herefordshire, HR2 0LD.

Pizza making = Best. Day. Ever.
Our pizza oven has been working overtime on our Easter HAF sessions. What could be better than learning to make your own pizza dough, topping it with a range of delicious (and healthy) toppings, then seeing it cooked to crispy perfection in our outdoor oven?!

This group built some epic dens in the woodland first… the best way to work up an appetite!

We have got free activity sessions this Easter for Herefordshire children who receive benefit related free school meals.

We have a few places left on Wednesday 1st April for children aged 8 to 14 to come to us for free through the Herefordshire HAF programme. They can choose from a range of adventurous outdoor activities such as low ropes, caving, canoeing, mega stand-up paddle boarding, climbing on our onsite tower, archery and woodland activities including pizza making.

A packed lunch, snack and cooked dinner are provided daily and children can also get free return transport from the Oval in Hereford.

What a fantastic day we had hosting School Games this week!
We welcomed 11 Herefordshire schools and over 150 children, who took part in a wide range of fun-filled team challenges designed to build teamwork and communication skills.
It was brilliant to watch the students support each other, work together, and grow in confidence throughout the day.

A proud moment for our team this week.

We’ve just installed our Association of Heads of Outdoor Education Centres (AHOEC) Gold Standard plaque on the front of the Centre — a recognition awarded to centres that go above and beyond national quality and safety benchmarks in outdoor education.

The AHOEC Gold Standard builds on the standards set by the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, AdventureMark and the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA), recognising not only strong safety practice but also the quality of learning, experiences and service provided.

For our team, this plaque represents the dedication, care and professionalism that goes into every programme we deliver. It’s a visible reminder of our commitment to providing safe, meaningful and high-quality outdoor learning experiences for every school, group and young person who visits.

A huge thank you to our staff team whose hard work makes achievements like this possible.

We are hiring a new Clerk to the Trustees. This is a flexible role of 70 hours per annum and requires attending meetings in Longtown or Hereford five times a year.

The Clerk to the Trustees plays a pivotal role in ensuring the effective and professional operation of the Board of Trustees. This includes overseeing the smooth and efficient administration of Board meetings, providing advice to Trustees on governance and regulatory compliance, and reviewing governance policies, procedures, and associated documentation. The Clerk also offers administrative support to the Chair, helping to uphold high standards of accountability, transparency, and best practice across the Board’s work.

• Pay rate: £16 an hour
• Closing Date: Monday 30th March 2026
• Interviews: Week beginning 6th April
• Start Date: 20th April
