We use a wide variety of activities to create unforgettable outdoor adventures that promote resilience and self-confidence.

Established in 1964, we have been a charity since 2019. Longtown Outdoor Learning Centre has been operating since 1964. The centre offers accommodation, camping and challenging outdoor adventure activities for all ages and abilities in and around the Brecon Beacons National Park. Our multi-activity outdoor education courses aim to promote self-confidence, consideration for others, and caring for

the environment. This comes from enjoying the successes achieved through personal endeavour and working together, in wild and beautiful landscapes.

A little bit of history at Longtown…

Longtown Outdoor Learning has been delivering outdoor learning and adventures for over 60 years, but the beautiful building at the heart of our centre has been part of the local community for much, much longer.

Built as an Inn, around 1645, the building has served the community for over 380 years. Today, it is Grade II listed, reflecting both its historical importance and the need to carefully preserve this special building for future generations.

This summer, a large section of our boundary wall, which was sadly close to toppling, has been expertly rebuilt by Dai Davis and his two sons.

They have done a fantastic job, restoring the wall and ensuring it should now stand strong for many years to come.

A huge thank you to Dai, Hamer and Lloyd for helping us look after this important part of our history!

We are very excited to announce that construction of our new 80-seater dining room and commercial kitchen is about to get underway! This has taken many years of planning and preparation, and we are thrilled that the project can now become a reality.

This development will replace the building that currently operates as our kit stores and will significantly enhance our facilities and the experience we are able to offer our guests. One of the biggest improvements will be our ability to accommodate larger groups together in one space, something that has often been difficult with our current dining arrangements. The new facilities will also provide a more spacious, comfortable and efficient environment for everyone who visits us.

The new building has been designed and will be built by . TG Escapes specialise in bespoke, sustainable, timber-framed modular buildings that are designed to emphasise connection with nature and operate to net zero.

Free Summer Activity Sessions for Herefordshire Children!

We’re offering free activity sessions this summer holiday for Herefordshire children aged 8–14 who receive benefit-related free school meals, through the Herefordshire HAF programme.

We have sessions are available from Wednesday 12th August to Friday 21st August, giving children the chance to get outdoors, try something new and have an adventure — completely free of charge.

Free transport is also available from The Oval in Hereford, making it even easier for children to get involved. We provide a packed lunch, snack and cooked dinner daily.

There’s a fantastic range of activities to choose from, including: climbing on our on-site tower, canoeing, archery, woodland activities, including pizza making, low ropes, caving and mega stand-up paddleboarding.

It’s a great opportunity for children to have fun, get active, build confidence, learn new skills and enjoy some outdoor adventure during the summer holidays.

As our school groups head off for the summer holidays, we're delighted to be welcoming a variety of charities and support organisations to our centre over the next six weeks.

This Thursday, we're excited to welcome Our Second Home for a youth residential. They support young refugees and asylum seekers by creating opportunities to build friendships, develop leadership skills and simply enjoy being young in a safe and welcoming environment.

At the end of July, we'll be hosting the Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust, whose work inspires young people to believe in a brighter future while living through and beyond cancer.

In early August, we'll welcome Support 4 Independence, an award-winning care provider offering accessible, inclusive support for people with a wide range of needs.

We're incredibly proud to host these inspiring organisations. During their stay, many of these groups will be out and about in our local area, and we know our community will extend its usual warm welcome.

We believe that spending time with people from different backgrounds, abilities and life experiences enriches us all, and we're looking forward to sharing our corner of the countryside with them.

Looking for something fun and exciting for your child to do this summer holiday? Our activity days for 8 to 14-year-olds are packed with adventure and unforgettable experiences - all set in the stunning surroundings of the Black Mountains and Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and on our beautiful 16 acre site.

We have four activity days taking place in the summer holidays. Monday 24th and Wednesday 26th August will be action-packed onsite days and include a selection of paddleboarding, climbing, sky trek, leap-of-faith, challenge course and zip wire. Tuesday 25th and Thursday 27th August will take the adventure offsite for canoeing and gorge scrambling.

Each day is an opportunity for children to have fun, unplug from screens, build confidence and create lasting memories - all while being guided by qualified, experienced instructors.

The cost is £45 per day. Pick-up and drop-off is from our base in Longtown, Herefordshire, HR2 0LD.

We’d like to give a huge shout-out to Riley, one of our amazing Outdoor Learning Tutors, for creating these fantastic signs for our Base Camp. Riley has hand-painted 12 unique signs – one for each tent – each featuring a bird species that can be spotted in the UK. We absolutely love them and think they add something really special to Base Camp!

We are a busy outdoor residential centre in Longtown known for its warm, friendly atmosphere and clean, welcoming facilities.

We are looking for a part-time housekeeping assistant / cleaner to join our team.

The Role:

· Ensuring high standards of cleanliness throughout our guest accommodation and public spaces.

· Cleaning bedrooms, toilets, showers and communal areas.

· Assisting with laundry and linen management.

Hours:

· Approximately 10 hours per week

· Monday and Friday mornings

· This could be a term time only contract if preferred

What we are looking for:

· A strong attention to detail

· A positive, can-do attitude

· Reliable and able to work independently

· Previous experience is helpful but not essential

Pay: £13.45 an hour
