For a lot of people (myself very much included), entering competitions brings anxiety, self-doubt and fear.
Some people enjoy taking on that challenge.
Some people have absolutely no desire to.
Both are completely valid.
Competing isn’t the be-all and end-all of fitness. In reality, it’s a tiny part of it, even for those of us who compete regularly.
For many people, competitions are simply a tool. They provide a goal and help keep them motivated to train. In that sense, entering a Hyrox or Deka is no different to signing up for a marathon. For most people, it’s not about winning. It’s about having something to work towards.
But not everybody needs that.
We recently ran a poll with our members and found that only around 20% regularly compete.
A similar number of our members have absolutely no desire to ever enter a competition.
The rest sit somewhere in the middle; they might do the occasional event for fun, or they might never get round to entering one at all.
What all of them have in common is that they come to train, get stronger, improve their fitness and feel better than they did yesterday.
So if you’ve ever looked at our gym and thought:
“I’d love to join, but everyone there probably competes…”
The reality is very different.
You don’t need to compete.
You don’t even need to be fit.
