⚽️ PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY | QUEENS HEAD 2-3 SESKU MINERS ⚒️
The Miners travelled to South Yorkshire for another pre-season friendly, hoping to continue what has been an excellent pre-season so far.
With a couple of late drop outs once again, we were left with a bare 13 players but that didn’t stop the lads putting in another massive shift. 💪
We started very slowly, with Queens Head dominating the early possession and creating a few half-chances, although they couldn’t test our stand-in keeper Steven Allison.
Captain Connor Mountain then gave the lads a few stern words, and that completely changed the momentum of the game.
Mountain picked the ball up in the centre of the park before playing one of his trademark passes, splitting the centre-half and left-back to release Ellis Proctor down the wing. Proctor delivered a beautiful cross into the box, where Jack Eccles rose brilliantly to head home. ⚽️
HALF TIME: QUEENS HEAD 0-1 SESKU MINERS
A few more words from the captain and manager at half-time reminded the lads that we were nowhere near our best despite being in front and that there were plenty more gears to find.
The lads came out flying after the break and soon doubled the lead.
Great link-up play between Mountain and Jack Hannam found Barrass, who showed fantastic feet to beat three players before providing a lovely ball to Proctor. Ellis made no mistake, finishing neatly into the bottom corner. ⚽️
0-2 MINERS!
The third soon followed.
Hannam broke free down the left before delivering a lovely cross into the box, where Eccles produced another quality finish to grab his second of the afternoon. ⚽️⚽️
0-3 MINERS!
The game then became a little feisty, with Queens Head understandably frustrated and a few handbags following. Seven yellow cards were eventually shown, with a couple certainly questionable! 🟨😂
Queens Head made a few changes and started to work their way back into the game.
Steven Allison then produced an absolutely fantastic save from just two yards out to keep the ball out and preserve our three-goal advantage. 🧤🔥
Shortly afterwards, a clear foul went unpunished and Queens Head pulled one back.

They then found a second with a great ball to the back post and a well-taken header.

The talk on the pitch was simple: we do not throw this away. We needed to find another gear, dig deep and see the game out.
And that’s exactly what the lads did.
The Miners held on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory. 👊⚒️
⭐ PLAYER SHOUTOUTS
A huge shoutout to debutant Toby Philpott, who was absolutely immense at centre-half. He marshalled the back line brilliantly and won everything in the air. What a debut! 👏
Jack Eccles picked up both the Players’ and Managers’ Man of the Match awards after 90 minutes of non-stop pressing, leading from the front and, of course, grabbing a couple of goals. ⚽️⚽️🏆
Every single player on that pitch fought for each other for the second week running, and once again there were some outstanding individual performances.
Milnes, Jarvis and Blatcher were excellent yet again. 👏
Keiron Sawyer also stepped in at right-back and had an awesome game, winning the majority of his duels and putting in another huge shift for the team. 💪
Another win, another battling performance and another step forward in pre-season.
