🔓 UNLOCK OWEN IN 3 STEPS

Struggling to get your Owens looking smooth? Build them up instead of trying to force the full trick straight away 👇

1️⃣ BUTTER
Keep the board on the snow and butter through the movement. Get the rotation and positions dialled first.

2️⃣ POP
Now add the pop.
Pop in → slide → pop out.

3️⃣ COUNTER
Use counter rotation through your upper body to control and snap the board through.

Build the movement first. Then add the power. Then add the style. 🏂

💾 Save this and try all 3 next time you ride.

3 tips are helpful but if you really want some coaching steps through the trick jump on one of our snowboard sessions or try our online coaching and course.

Think these are just basic 180s?

They’re actually the foundation for almost every freestyle trick you’ll learn afterwards.

Mastering all 8 variations develops balance, edge control, switch riding, take-offs, landings and spatial awareness—skills that carry over into 360s, butters, rails and beyond.

Don’t rush to the advanced tricks. Build the strongest foundation possible first.

💬 Which of the 8 still needs the most work?

Most people think you need to learn ollies before you can start 50-50s… you don’t.

This progression lets you build the feeling of locking into a 50-50, sliding, and riding away safely before adding the ollie later.

✅ Wheel taps
✅ Acid drops
✅ Jump onto the board already locked in
✅ Ride the slide and drop off the end

Break the trick down, build confidence, then put it all together.

💬 Which step do you find hardest?

This skill is why some riders never seem to catch an edge. 👀🏂

Being able to ride and move backwards down the slope gives you way more control, helps you recover from mistakes, and can save you from some nasty crashes.

If kickflips are easy… try this 👀

The Hospital Flip looks simple, but getting the board to flip and come back under your feet takes way more control than you’d think.

Can you land these consistently, or are they still on your trick list?

👇 Let me know below.

Why do box tricks feel so scary?

Because fear usually isn’t the real problem… it’s uncertainty.

Not knowing your speed.
Not knowing where to look.
Not knowing if you’re about to catch an edge.

What’s the biggest thing that’s holding you back from learning box tricks?

Drop it in the comments 👇

I’ll make a coaching breakdown answering the most common problem next.

Most riders try to spin this with just their feet… that’s why it never comes around cleanly.

The nollie backside bigspin is all about timing, body rotation and catching the board early.

Save this for your next skate session and work through these three steps:
✅ Backside nose revert
✅ Nollie back shuv
✅ Add your upper body and catch early

Small changes make a huge difference.

Nose blocks look difficult… but they’re much easier when you break them into stages.

🏂 Step 1: Nose press
Shift your weight just past your front foot and drop your weight down.

🏂 Step 2: High press
Move your weight further over the nose while keeping your legs strong and tall.

🏂 Step 3: Tail grab
Straighten your front leg, pull your back leg up, grab the tail.

Save this for your next park session and send it to a mate who’s learning butters.

Instantly look better being able to run on the flats. 🐧🏂

The penguin walk isn’t just about getting around the slope—it’s the foundation for ollies, edge control and better board control.

Try these 3 tips:
✅ Shins pressed into your boots
✅ Practice Ollies & Switch Ollies
✅ Use the board’s flex to generate spring
