Today we swapped our Morning HIIT class for Gadebridge Park Run πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Every single person put in the effort, and absolutely smashed it. From those pushing their pace to those stepping outside their comfort zone, everyone gave 100%.

It's easy to turn up when it's your favourite workout, but real progress happens when you're willing to challenge yourself and try something different.

🦡 Quadriceps Dominance: Are Your Quads Doing Too Much?

During landing, squatting and running, your body should share load between the quadriceps, glutes and hamstrings.

When the quadriceps become dominant, athletes often land with less knee flexion and rely heavily on the front of the thigh to absorb force.

This may be associated with:
⚠️ Increased stress on the knee joint
⚠️ Reduced shock absorption
⚠️ Lower contribution from the glutes and hamstrings
⚠️ Decreased movement efficiency

In this simple test, we're looking at how you control and absorb force through the lower limb.

The goal isn't to weaken the quadsβ€”it's to improve how the entire system works together.

"My hamstrings are always tight."

It's one of the most common things I hear from runners.

But here's the question...

Are they actually tight?

Not all hamstring tightness is muscular.

In many runners, the feeling of tightness can be driven by the nervous system rather than the muscle itself.

⚠️ Two types of hamstring tightness:

Muscular Tightness
βœ” Responds well to stretching
βœ” Improves with mobility work
βœ” Often feels better after warming up

Neurological Tightness
βœ” Often linked to neural tension
βœ” Can feel like a constant pull or restriction
βœ” May worsen with aggressive stretching
βœ” Often needs a different approach

This is why some runners stretch their hamstrings every day and still feel tight.

The key isn't always doing more stretchingβ€”it's understanding why the tightness is there in the first place.

Through movement and biomechanics assessment, we can identify whether the issue is muscular, neurological, or part of a wider movement pattern.

Identify the cause. Change the approach.
