SATURDAY 18th APRIL
St PIRANS LEAGUE
DIVISION 3 WEST
St Keverne F.C 3-1Troon Res
Kieren Croft Rafael LADO
Jake Hawkins (2)
The Saints welcomed TROON to the Playing Field at the weekend, looking to continue the upturn in form which has seen only 1 defeat in the last 4 games.
Both teams started on the front foot, looking to play football as much as possible. After an even opening 20 minutes it was the visitors that took when the St Keverne defence failed to deal with a ball into the box. It fell to LADO who finished low passed MEAKIN.
Troon began to dominate possession, playing some good football but the returning JAMES had his defence marshalled well, dealing with most things. When the visitors did get behind, MEAKIN held strong in The Saints goal.
The hosts got themselves level in the 43rd minute when they were awarded a free kick on the right. JAMES took it & played it into the area, where it caused confusion, leading to the ball coming off a Troon defender towards to back post where CROFT was completely unmarked to head home from 2 yards.
St Keverne got their second just 3 minutes later when from a Troon corner, CROFT cleared the ball. THORNHILL picked it up just inside his own half, turned & played a perfect ball in behind the defence for HAWKINS to run on to. He beat the final defender & finished Cooley, lifting the ball over BROOKER. H-T 2-1
The 2nd half continued in a similar fashion to the first, with both sides playing some good football, most of the time cancelling each other.
The hosts did get a little breathing space just after the hour mark, when NORMANSHIRE won a header on halfway. The ball found it's way to THORNHILL, who held off his marker well. He laid the ball off to HAWKINS who hit an early shot from about 25 yards out. Although it wasn't right in the corner, it did catch BROOKER flat footed & found the back of the net.
With time ticking away, the visitors continued to play football, but without too many clear cut opportunities, again with JAMES & CROFT dealing with most things & MEAKIN sweeping up behind when it did get through.
F-T 3-1 with The Saints picking up a hard earned, but well deserved 3 points.
SAINT OF THE MATCH: There were some great performances all over the pitch with Phill James & Kieran CROFT solid at the heart of the defence & Jacob Thornhill with 2 assists.
It was once again awarded to Jake HAWKINS. Not only for his 2 goals, but for his work rate & attitude throughout the game
