Sadly our game away vs Winslow Town has been called off due to the weather.

Next weekend we are playing at home for the first time this season. It will be on Saturday from 13.30 against our friends from Sibford. There’s plenty of space so if you’re at a loose end, feel free to come and enjoy some sunshine* and watch the cricket!

*Sunshine not guaranteed.

Helmdon travelled to Maids Moreton Cricket Club yesterday in the season opener and were defeated despite a spirited fight back.

Helmdon won the toss and elected to bat first on a green wicket, but quickly found themselves struggling. James Burridge did his best to hang around on debut whilst Geoff Bridger looked to score quick runs before being dismissed in what turned into a three wicket over for the hosts. Karl Leitelmeyer, Tom Hirst and Jonty Bridger all did well to frustrate the bowling attack and between them lead Helmdon to a total of 88. Considering Helmdon were 26-6 it gave Maids Moreton a target that deserved respect.

Jonty Bridger top scored with 21 batting at 10.

The bowling and fielding for Helmdon was excellent. Catches were well taken and the ground fielding was disciplined. Tom Hirst hit some impressive early season form and left both sides amazed at the fact that he went wicketless in his 8 over spell going for just 7 runs.

Going out to defend 88 was always going to be a struggle, but the side made a good fist of it before Maids Moreton reached their target with 6 wickets in hand. Congratulations to the opposition and well done to Helmdon for putting up a good fight.

Helmdon CC Return to Cricket Plan
Whilst we welcome the return of cricket to our lives, we have a duty as a club to make available the information required to make this a safe return, along with establishing guidelines for conduct at our ground.

We would ask that all players, spectators and our opponents make themselves aware of the guidelines which are linked to below.

Track & Trace

The government requires us to collect the contact details of EVERYONE (not just players) who comes to the ground when a match is taking place. Forms will be available on the day but it would be of help if you could complete the form prior to attending. A box will be provided for your completed form. We will not use the details collected for any purpose other than track & trace, should it help the government and NHS prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please download and complete the form here:

Of primary importance is that visitors to the ground must screen themselves for COVID-19 symptoms before coming and should not leave their homes if they are displaying symptoms. You can assess yourself against the government guidelines here.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/

Social distancing must be maintained whilst at the ground and to that end we suggest you bring your own seat as there will not be enough space for all on our benches.

Please read the following documents:

Other things to remember as per ECB guidelines:

- Arrive changed
- Bring your own tea/drinks
- The ball will be sanitised every 6 overs / 20 minutes
- Minimum contact with the ball - return direct to the bowler
- No saliva to be used on the ball
- No clothing to be handed to the umpire
- The pavillion will be closed except for authorised access e.g. to use toilet
- The toilet will be available but must be cleaned after use using the products supplied

Saturday 18th July - 1st game of the 2020 season.... Better late than never!!
This shortened season will be friendlies only, but at least we'll get to play. We travelled to Bodicote (previously Div 1 team) with our packed lunches/teas, water bottles & sanitizers. Bodicote batted first and set an excellent 240, which was above par, but not unexpected given most of our team hadn't picked up a ball for 12 months! We bowled and fielded well in patches, and this will only get better in the coming weeks. Batting is a little trickier, again we batted well in patches, but sadly you usually only get one chance batting. We however put up a spirited response finishing on 180. Thanks to Bodicote for being excellent hosts, just waiting on the league to confirm our next game.
