Last weekend invited us to the Peak District.
We all tried on some kit very generously loaned by and then we led 20 women on a run.
It is so important that these events happen, there were women who were new to trail right through to sponsored athletes and finishers.
There was no competition, no judgement only joy & laughter and connection.
We had such a good time we are already planning more meets like this.

My birthday weekend
As always I had 100 miles as my goal

As always I fell short
Georgia & I stuck together the whole way which made it easier..we also had a team member on rotation too for some fresh energy

We had a few short showers but nothing much & if that's all it was we would be fine
1am the wind & rain were awful and we were cold and shivery
Georgia decided to stop (& was asleep before she got in her sleeping bag 🤣)
I fully intended to carry on until I got to camp & thought about putting extra layers on & despite being an hour ahead of my plan jacked it in & retreated to the tent

Helped into dry clothes and my sleeping bag I lay shivering while the storm passed and then we all got up & ran again

I'm not disappointed or frustrated- I know now it's doable and had I layered up earlier I could have kept going (although until it rained we were too warm! )

I'm going in a team next year for my 100th ultra
But 2027 will be my 15th year so it would be great to do it there

Last weekend I took on .events Two Roses route - not as a race but as a training run
Set off at 6am
Arrived back at 4.24am
I had friends with me all the way
We had lots of encounters with cows and plenty of other animals
& I had fun!

There was no time pressure (although I kinda thought 22 hrs) & I fuelled really well so I didn't hit the sleepy stage
Absolutely loved it!!

The infographic below is from USA Running’s 2017 National Runner Survey regarding how people address injury.

What’s so fascinating about the above survey results is that many areas noted either will likely not play a role in recovery, delay the healing process, or make an injury worse.

Some runs are hard
We can have a good excuse not to get out the door.
We had work, tired, the weather, poor sleep, not enough food etc

But sometimes you need to defy the odds & get out there

As you know as well as a coach I'm also a race director
Which means this time of year is a busy one for us,
However all our races are over come the beginning of August (this year...our race calendar will stretch to October from next year)
This means I have some time & space for some new clients. Which ties in nicely with autumn races or if you want to make sure you keep moving over winter

Drop me a message and let's chat

Taper week next week for some of my clients-
The nerves are kicking in.
They have worked hard. & are ready for their race, first ultra for a few of them so nerves are understandable & quite natural
They will be tired too this week as it's their last high week.

Next week they will be able to rest and recover
They need to trust that the work they have put in is enough (it absolutely is)
& trust that they won't feel this exhausted in 2 weeks
They also need to trust their bodies.

They need to increase the fuel..they have been eating anything that will stand still long enough as it is, but they will now increase fluid & fuel ready for race day.

Now is the time to get their race kit ready, nothing new on the day so they have been practicing with it, but now it's time to decide what they want in their bag & where they want it.
Easily accessible snacks means less faffing.
How are they feeling about their race plan? - I almost guarantee it's changed from the beginning, months ago (& I would bet their nerves make them think they can't hit those early goals)

The taper tantrum is real..nerves, excitement, exhaustion all adds to being a little bit on edge - don't be surprised if your tapering runner snaps, or bursts into tears ..lots of patience and hugs

Rest is important, sleep will help those muscles recover, it will calm the mind & help rejuvenate them.

By race day they will be ready to go!

A few clients of mine smashed the Two Roses this weekend
Tara 2nd lady on the white Rose
Nicki 3rd
Nicola 4th
Georgia 5th lady Red Rose
Due to a ni**le Georgia made the brave decision to stop at 50k & not push onto the 100k
We will work on strengthening those glutes & she's already talking about next year

Sadly the weather got the better of Meg but again she made the brave decision to stop rather than pushing on.

It took a good 3-4 months to get ready for this challenge, so I can't expect any less to fully recover
That doesn't mean I won't be running that long, but I will need a bit more self-care throughout that time.
Active recovery is far better than sitting around waiting & so I've had a nice 10 days walking, swimming and doing contrast therapy as well as plenty of coffee of course
I was back at the gym yesterday & I've had a couple of short runs.
Feeling good now!
Many thanks for the support .batt .excited.goat
