Tai Chi Qigong is a beautiful mindful movement practice which can help alleviate stress and anxiety, and promote a greater sense of calm and wellbeing. Qigong syncronises slow, gentle movements with the breath to help develop a stronger connection to your body and present moment awareness. In addition to being deeply relaxing and rejuvenating, it is an extremely grounding practice, which cultivate
s a tangible sense of stillness, expansiveness and stability. In my classes, I aim to offer a quiet space in which to step out of the flurry of every day life and shift from doing mode to being. I offer a combination of movement and sitting meditation practices to help you slow down and bring your mind and body back into alignment. About me:
I first discovered Tai Chi Qigong as a university student in 2011, when searching for a better way to cope with stress and it has supported and enriched my life ever since. I have now been practising Tai Chi Qigong for several years with a variety of different teachers and schools in Oxford and Cambridge. Having long wanted to share this beautiful practice, I qualified to teach Qigong with the Shiatsu College Teacher Training Programme in December 2018. I co-run seasonal workshops around Oxford in collaboration with 2 other local Qigong teachers as well as teaching my own classes. In addition to my Qigong practice, I am very involved in the Oxford Mindfulness community, regularly attending Oxford Insight Meditation classes and retreat days as well as longer Qigong and meditation retreats at Gaia House and elsewhere. In addition to this, I am an active committee member of the Oxford Student Mindfulness Society and sometimes teach mindful movement as part of their termly programme of drop-in mindfulness sessions. See: https://www.facebook.com/OxfordStudentMindfulnessSociety/ for further details. Coming from a Buddhist background, I have a particular interest in the synergy between Qigong and meditation, having found them to be very complementary practices. My focus when teaching Qigong is therefore on its potential as a mindful movement meditation for calming the mind, developing insight and compassion. I am also a qualified teacher with over 7 years’ professional experience teaching English A Level, GCSE and EFL. I now work as an Access and Outreach Officer at Somerville College.
