This mornings activity was regional food tasting with historical origins 🧀🥧🍪🥛🤔😋
All the items were founded in England and residents were surprised at the history behind such well known foodstuffs!
Who knew Cheddar cheese was being produced in the 12th century or the Bakewell Tart came about due to a mistake by the chef!
Janice became my wonderful assistant handing round the samples and everyone enjoyed eating and learning at the same time 😋🤔🥰☺️

Join us at Oakwood Court on Wednesday 23 September for national Arts in Care Homes celebrations and be part of a special morning of creativity, conversation and community. 🌿🎨

This year’s theme, 'stories that connect us', will bring our community together to create nature-inspired artwork - 'our woodland walk'. The workshop is being led by local artists, The Painted Ladies.

Everyone is welcome to come along for this free event, meet our friendly community and enjoy refreshments.

Oakwood Airways took residents to Austria this morning for Armchair Travel ✈️💺🇦🇹🏔
Facts, trivia and a themed quiz were enjoyed as well as food tasting of pretzels,
Parmesan biscuits and Austrian made hazelnut wafers 🥨😋
Residents shared their experiences of past visits to Austria with Maureen telling everyone how she used to go skiing every year ⛷️🥰
They listened to some Austrian folk music and ended the journey watching a recorded theatre performance of the Sound of Music which was primarily filmed in Salzburg 🎶

Janice, Hilary and Mary worked hard on their creations and were delighted with the results 🥰 They all said how relaxing the morning had been and how nice it was to chat whilst crafting was well 🥰

🌟 What's On This Week? 🌟

We have another wonderful week ahead, packed with plenty of opportunities to keep minds active, bodies moving, and spirits lifted! 🧠✨

We're especially excited that Armchair Travel is back on Tuesday! 🌍✈️ We can't wait to set off on another virtual adventure together and explore new places from the comfort of our home.

Alongside this, there will be lots of brain-exercising activities throughout the week, including quizzes, games, discussions, and creative sessions designed to keep everyone engaged and having fun.

And of course, our kitchen team will be serving up another week of delicious, warming meals 🍲❤️, perfect for these cooler days and guaranteed to keep us feeling cosy and well nourished.

You can't get more reliable than Oakwood Court's firm favourite balloon tennis. It challenges eye and hand coordination, it gets residents to move their bodies in a way they wouldn't normally, it exercises those core muscles, it gets the heart rate going, it exercises the brain and amongst all of this, it is gets everyone laughing, what's not to love🎈🎾🤣❤️

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this morning at our community networking breakfast at Oakwood Court. It was wonderful to welcome people from across the local community and spend time building new relationships, strengthening existing partnerships, and sharing ideas about how we can work together to support older people in Sussex.

Paul Masson visited and said: "It's been a great opportunity to connect. I've ben very impressed with the new facilities I've seen today at Oakwood Court, from the new reception, bedrooms and communal spaces, through to the accessibility and thoughtfulness of the design and decoration."

Events like these are a great opportunity to collaborate and learn from one another, and we were delighted by the conversations, insights and enthusiasm throughout the morning.

It was a lively start to the morning with the lovely John Cheney entertaining everyone with lots of singalong tunes and songs 🎶🎤
He had everyone clapping and toe-tapping throughout the hour and everyone said how much they'd enjoyed the session 😃🎶🎤

Janice and Sheila also enjoyed some mindful colouring this morning 🖍✏️✍️
They were delighted, and surprised, to find themselves the subject of the colouring and enjoyed choosing the hair colours they really wanted instead of white or grey 😂🥰
