This past week has brought us some really bad weather! Possibly not too dissimilar to D-Day, which happened 82 years ago today! In June 1944, a full moon and low tide happened at the same time on June 5, 6, and 7. The plan to invade France was set for June 5, 1944. Weather reports from western Ireland on June 3 warned the Allies about a coming storm, leading them to decide to delay their plans.
We can only imagine how this delay affected everyone waiting for the order. On June 6, 1944, people all around the world watched as important events took place on the beaches of Normandy. D-Day, known as 'Operation Overlord', was the biggest beach invasion ever in history. It achieved an important victory that changed the direction of World War II and had a lasting impact on history.
◾️Seven and a half years ago, the Phoenix was spotted coming up from the special Poppy display in Fort Nelson, which is on Portsdown Hill and looks out over Portsmouth. A reminder of both sacrifice and hope that lives on through humanity.
FOR THOSE WHO LEAVE NEVER TO RETURN.
FOR THOSE WHO RETURN BUT ARE NEVER THE SAME **WE REMEMBER**
WE ARE HOPE THAT RISES LIKE A PHOENIX FROM THE ASHES OF SHATTERED DREAMS.
